Mass.gov Product Announcement Major changes planned for Service page content type this week
Hello <<First Name>>:

Service pages have long been the heart of Mass.gov, but we’ve heard your requests to make this content type more flexible and visually appealing. We plan to roll out major changes to the template this week that will enable organizations to use Service pages in a more flexible way to provide easy access to informational and action-oriented resources on or off the site.

New options for Service pages include familiar components such as the Featured Item Mosaic used on Organization pages and the Key Message found on Promotional pages. For more display choices, we’re also introducing Flexible Link Groups that combine the best of traditional Service page link buttons and Custom Link Groups.

Your existing Service page content will carry over when the template is updated, so you don’t need to take any immediate action. However, you will notice some design and layout changes. We invite you to explore the many new options to optimize your Service pages.

Flexibility and more flexibility

One of the most significant changes to the Service page content type is the ability to create multiple sections and move them up and down the page, similar to what we introduced last fall for Organization pages. So if your organization has a major event coming up, for example, you could slide the Events section of the page nearer to the top, then move it back down after the event takes place.

You’ll also no longer be restricted to the link sections titled “What would you like to do?” and “What you need to know.” You can maintain the bold blue section dividers but can rename those section titles. You can also opt for a simpler black-on-white header style, or skip using a header entirely.

You can also mix and match sections containing links displayed on blue or white rectangular buttons or in standard links (there will no longer be separate “default” and “custom link group” Service page flavors). These are called Flexible Link Groups.

You won’t be limited to how many links you can include in a section, though we recommend not overwhelming your audience with too many. You’ll have the option for lists of links to be expanded or not upon page load.

Other changes:

  • Additional Resources links will move up to become part of a Flexible Link Group

  • There will be no more overflow pages (“See all...” links). The links themselves will appear on your page, so you might want to think about reorganizing if there are a lot.

If you have questions about the upcoming changes, please make a ServiceNow request. We’ll be updating our Service page article in the Knowledge Base to further explain the new options.

Sincerely,

The Mass.gov Team
