Assistant Curator, M+ Museum

M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.

(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)

You Will Be Responsible For

  • creating and developing the content of inter-disciplinary learning programmes and experiences for audiences from different interests and backgrounds with a focus on visual art, design, architecture and moving image;
  • delivering and managing the operation and logistics of a wide range of public programmes such as workshops, in-gallery activities, talks and conversations, courses and performances;
  • working closely with educators, artists, and creatives from different disciplines to create programmes that reflect the goals and values of the institution and managing the relationships;
  • conducting research in fields such as learning and teaching pedagogy, visual culture learning, educators’ development, in-gallery learning experience, and outreach strategies with an aim to offer a range of learning activities that allow for an expanded participation for museum audience;
  • assisting in developing museum’s long-term planning for public programmes, with an aim to expand participation and engagement for different visitors; and
  • assisting the Learning and Interpretation team in all events and activities with administrative support.

You Should

  • possess a recognised university degree, preferably in Museum Education, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, Fine Arts, Design, Architecture, Moving Images, Creative Media, Cultural Management, Humanity or equivalent;
  • have at least 4 years of work experience in developing, planning and implementing learning programmes for the general public; preferably in an arts and cultural organisation; candidates with less experience but relevant background will be considered;
  • have administrative experience preferably in project management in any arts and cultural organisations;
  • possess strong project coordination, research and interpersonal skills;
  • be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment;
  • be open-minded, highly-organised and detail-oriented; and
  • have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese.
