Identify the Conflict Type: Healthy Conflict vs Unhealthy Conflict Its important to encourage Healthy conflicts as it leads to innovative ideas, better team bonding at the end - but you must be able to differentiate healthy vs unhealthy conflicts According to DASSM - there are 5 levels of conflict 1. Problem Solving 2. Disagreement 3. Contest 4. Crusade 5. World War Refer to Thomas Kilman Conflict Resolution Model
-
-
Conflict should be issues and idea based the outcome for which will lead to a problem being solved or a decision taken to move the project forward is healthy .People centric ego based positional conflict should be avoided as it impacts the projects progress
-
Understanding ERP systems as both a technological hub and a potential battleground for conflicting ideas highlights the need for clear communication and strategic conflict resolution. Grasping these dynamics early on allows you to mitigate issues, enhancing both collaboration and operational success.
-
In my experience healthy conflict can be really good. It can promote thinking outside of the box and promote agility within the team. ERP implementations are complex by nature and different views can promote success and encourage teams to delve deeper and gain a deeper understanding of the system and implementation process to follow. Respect, trust and open communication are very key when raising different views.

Most of the ERP projects don't adapt Agile as the delivery framework because people think agile is not meant for ERP implementation. You can address most of the conflicts by following all agile ceremonies religiously. For instance in the grooming session a requirement is explained to the scrum team by the product owner. Every scrum member can challenge and clarify their perspective much before the actual implementation of the requirement. Poking(estimation) for instance takes everyones consideration into account. This session unearths most of hidden challenges to arrive at the proper estimate. When unclear requirements and unrealistic timelines are addressed, we can effectively resolve the conflicts.

From my past experiences, we identified that the fear factor and a lack of understanding of the benefits or "what's in it for us" were core issues underlying other problems. To address these, we killed the fear factor by regularly engaging with stakeholders and organizing informal "talk around tea" sessions. These sessions provided a relaxed environment where top management interacted with team leads, explaining the benefits of the ERP project and securing their ownership. This approach not only demystified the project but also built a sense of inclusion and buy-in, which was crucial for overcoming resistance and enhancing collaboration.

- Identify potential conflicts in ERP projects, like resource allocation or differing stakeholder priorities. - Address conflicts proactively through open communication and encouraging team input. - Utilize tailored conflict resolution techniques for various conflict types, be it technical, interpersonal, or project-related. - Foster a collaborative environment to facilitate mutual solution finding. - Provide conflict resolution training to enhance team members' skills in active listening, negotiation, and compromise.
-
Conflict Resolution Training: Provide training on conflict resolution techniques such as negotiation, compromise, and collaboration. Equip team members with the skills to identify sources of conflict, manage emotions, and work towards mutually beneficial solutions.
-
A good communication skill is crucial to conflict management in any project let alone ERP projects only. Often operational, roles and responsibilities and scope related conflicts arise due to miscommunication or incomplete information sharing. An ERP project team must be groomed in open communication , verbal and written skills. Completeness and clarity of information would resolve half of the non-technical conflicts in a project.
-
Actually listen. Don’t try to think of solutions as the party is describing issues. Actively listen. Facilitate an environment where the parties can air their grievances. When we are listened to, we become more opening to listening. Ideally, a resolution will be found by the parties simply from them listening to each other in a safe environment. If they cannot come to a resolution, as mediators, we can then guide them to the most optimal solution.
-
Enhancing team collaboration in ERP projects can be achieved by promoting open communication, setting clear expectations, and using conflict resolution skills to address disagreements constructively.
-

By successfully navigating conflicts, teams can develop stronger relationships, improve collaboration, and enhance their problem-solving skills. Emphasizing the positive outcomes of resolving conflicts can motivate team members to approach disagreements constructively, ultimately leading to a more cohesive and effective team.

"Why me? Why am I the one to sort this out?" The answer might be: because you are good at it! . . .but what makes you a PEACEMAKER?? What makes you the "horse whisperer"? Some of it can be your calm yet confident personality. But, it is good for you to be able to identify your inherent, as well as LEARNED, conflict resolution skills. Build on your God-given characteristics. Enhance this with focused skill training. You will become a master negotiator this way.
-
To improve team collaboration in ERP projects using conflict resolution skills, start by identifying and understanding conflicts, distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy ones, and recognizing conflict levels. Effective communication is key, involving open dialogue, active listening, and clear information sharing to avoid misunderstandings. Use conflict resolution models like the Thomas Kilmann model to choose the best approach for resolving conflicts. Implement agile practices like grooming sessions and estimations to clarify requirements and address issues early. Employ negotiation tactics to find common ground and practice empathy to ensure all viewpoints are considered.
-
Negotiation is vital for resolving ERP project conflicts. Understand team members' perspectives, practice empathy, seek compromises, maintain project objectives, and bridge gaps to achieve successful outcomes.
-
It is a skill and sensitivity required in an ERP implementation team, the technical difference of a process based on good practice delivered in a system is not always aligned with the specific requirements of a client, ability to find solutions that are not always technical but focused on changes in processes is the skill that should be sought in the consulting team, The technical vision is not always definitive, nor is the need to maintain a process in the client, everything is a negotiation
-
To resolve the conflicts in the ERP implementation process it is very much essential to understand each team and their vested interests. You must have empathy and ability to compromise to achieve the project’s objectives.
-
Some of the common problem solving strategies include - Multi-factor Criteria - Cost Minimization - Time Minimization - Regret Minimization (yeah!) There could be more methods and the names could vary from very simple to very fancy. Most of the problems should be addressed using more than one framework. If not implemented, at least the solutions should be well-thought and recorded. Experience plays a major role in ERP troubleshooting. One experienced consultant can solve problems and come up with solutions that ChatGPT and Google won’t have. (As yet) So voting matters in the team. It is obvious to have all stakeholders while conducting problem solving sessions. Brainstorming with time limit is the best way to conduct such discussions.
-
Effective problem-solving in ERP projects involves a solution-oriented mindset, focusing on project goals, and using root cause analysis to identify issues. Collaborate with the team to develop creative solutions, benefiting the project and strengthening team unity.
-
If you want to solve the Problem, Breakdown the Problem statement in as much possible small portion, Discuss with Concern Expert in Team, Take Opinion, Listen, understand, collaborate, Map with the Core Requirement, Negotiate the conflict - knowledge based opinion ( not Just ego based inputs), you can have Creative Solution and that too team's solution
-
There are plenty of Problem-solving strategies which can be fruitful for organizations and Projects when tackling conflicts in ERP Projects few of them i can pen down here with my experience of manufacturing firms. Root Cause Analysis - Main cause of conflict Collaborative approach Prioritization and compromise based on impact Data Driven decision making (being a black belt i use this most of the time) General agreement among stakeholders (Stakeholder management) By employing root cause analysis, collaborative approaches, interest-based negotiation, and other strategies, project teams can find mutually beneficial solutions, build trust, and enhance collaboration, ultimately leading to the successful completion of the ERP project.
-
In ERP projects, problem-solving strategies are essential and critical. Enterprise solution-oriented mindset, prioritizing project goals over personal differences, is key. Root cause analysis helps uncover underlying issues, enabling collaborative solutions that benefit the project and enhance team unity.
-
Cross team bonding with technical and Non technical teams can help in avoiding the conflicts with strategic plan and coordination can result in moving positive direction. setting up expectation with personal Interaction and Communication with clear vision of minimum risk of business operations by using ERP systems with effective utilization can result positive.
-
Two things I've found helpful: 1. Conducting regular meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and any issues faced by the team. 2. Creating safe environment where team members feel comfortable sharing their thoughts without fear of retribution.
-
By incorporating change management skills into the conflict resolution approach, project leaders can help prepare the team to handle change more effectively. This includes clearly communicating the benefits of changes, involving team members in the decision-making process, and providing adequate support and training to ease the transition.
-
-
In ERP projects, building trust is paramount for successful collaboration. It's built on reliability, integrity, and fairness. Addressing conflicts transparently maintains trust. Cultivating this environment ensures smooth project advancement, fostering collaboration despite disputes.
-
1. Facilitate recurring connects within teams & natural teams to talk through changes, impediments, workaround and AOB. 2. Foster psychological safety within the team so members can openly communicate with each other, contribute to meetings, bring in their ideas w/o fear of rejection. 3. Showcase everyone's contribution to the forefront and reinstate 'One team mindset' for achieving end results. 3. Embed "voice of customer" thinking within the team so objectives are directed only towards customer outcomes and business value. 4. Encourage learning and sharing knowledge with each other & promote members to take up short term stretch assignments in other areas (SD can take up IS oil modules) to understand life in a day of other roles.

Conflict arises in the chain involving Client, Client-facing team (vendor), and Counter Team (vendor) This chain is nothing but human communication (XI inter-exchange) through human (middleware). 1.Always anticipate and avoid conflict, here client facing team is vital Effective communication is key to preventing conflict. Anticipate and avoid conflict by maintaining a healthy relationship between client and vendor teams, ensuring clear communication, and understanding resources skills for task allocation. 2.Post conflict: Accept responsibility, address communication gaps, reassess requirements, reallocate tasks if necessary, enhance team skills. Last" Client is Client"as you are also client someway or other and expect more from the vendor

Collaboration on ERP projects requires effective communication, strong conflict resolution skills, and fostering teamwork. It is necessary to identify the communication channels, frequency of updates and the way in which news is shared. In case of conflict you must act as an impartial mediator, and face them directly, listening to those affected. This creates an environment where everyone feels supported.
-
Though conflicts are unwelcome, but there are healthy &opportunities for teams /individual’s to introspect / course-correct, eventually learnings to avert future conflicts.. -Prophecy the symptoms of conflicting situations and prepare to counteract, which could induce positive atmosphere in the ecosystem - Avoid conflicts with Proactive communication to key stakeholders about status-quo, Way forward and R&R
-
Additional strategies include: - Strong project governance and leadership - Collaborative team dynamics - Continuous monitoring and evaluation - Data migration and integration planning - End-user engagement and feedback
