Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Jake is going to jail — and Tim Meadows will play his cannibal cellmate

Lou Diamond Phillips will play a criminal mastermind behind bars, as well

The season 4 finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended with a guilty verdict for Jake (Andy Samberg) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz), and the season 5 premiere will send them behind bars.

Samberg announced at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour in Beverly Hills that Tim Meadows and Lou Diamond Phillips will guest-star in the cop comedy’s upcoming season. EW has learned that Meadows will play Caleb, cellmate of Jake (Samberg). And, oh, one more thing about Caleb: He’s a cannibal. “He cares about Jake, but they are put into a bind because they are both taken out of protective custody and thrown into general population,” Brooklyn co-creator Dan Goor tells EW. “So he also has to look out for himself a bit.”

An SNL vet like Samberg, Meadows appeared most recently starred in another Fox comedy, Son of Zorn, and appeared with Samberg in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Phillips will pop up as an “erratic” criminal mastermind with whom Jake crosses paths, says Goor. Phillips’ recent TV credits include The Ranch, Longmire, and Blindspot.

Both will appear in multiple episodes. Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to Fox for season 5 on Sept. 26.
