It is important to foster alignment of goals by measuring progress in a manner that is results-based, not artifact-based. Have teams consider high-level business KPIs when prioritizing work and aligning portfolios. Don't measure teams simply by output. Measure against business goals which have been furthered by the software deliveries. This is a collaborative task and requires continual review and adjustment, so that it permeates every level of the product development work right down to what is being tested and deemed 'fit for purpose' or 'ready to deploy'. Every attribute of work completed should further the high-level KPIs for that unit. This is a key element of moving from 'project-based' to 'product-based' work.

Automation was our answer to scaling without losing our minds to repetitive tasks. By automating builds, testing, and deployments, we slashed our workload, freeing up the team to focus on innovation rather than maintenance. Standardizing these processes ensured consistency and reliability across the board, paving the way for smooth scaling.

Automation and standardized processes can easily 10x a teams output. Start by documenting the processes for an important task. If there is something that only one person knows how to do, that's a great candidate. You should create a step-by-step playbook that anyone on the team could use to complete the task. This alone will go a long way in making your team more productive. Automation takes this a step further. Removing human errors and speeding up the process. Automation also allows you to add auditing and role based access control. These are crucial to scaling out teams in any type of organization - from startups to enterprises.

DevOps/Automation is very helpful for regression testing. Consider that automation can also bring maintenance as well so it's not exactly free so consider carefully what is important to automate. Like many things, there is a balance to be reached.
