The term cloud disaster recovery (cloud DR) refers to the strategies and services enterprises apply for the purpose of backing up applications, resources, and data into a cloud environment. Cloud DR helps protect corporate resources and ensure business continuity. If disaster hits, enterprises can restore data from backed up versions to either on-premise or cloud environments. Another key advantage is the ability to automate many processes and quickly scale according to business requirements and needs.

Cloud services can greatly enhance your database disaster recovery plan through effective data redundancy. By keeping multiple copies of your data in various geographically dispersed data centers, cloud providers ensure that if one location suffers an outage, your database can quickly be restored from another site. This geographical spread of data storage is crucial, as it guards against the impact of local disasters and helps maintain constant data availability and integrity. This redundancy is vital for business continuity, ensuring that your operations can resume swiftly and efficiently without losing critical data.
-
Cloud services increases redundancy because of its availability zones offered by cloud service providers. They tends to ensure 99% of availability ensuring data is made available at all times.
-

As you pick your locations, you should look at CSP regional layout, map that to your network connectivity to their network hubs, and find suitable locations that offer proximity advantage. For global businesses, creating their own backbone is often cost-effective in the long run and offers better flexibility.
-
As the company grows, the values of the two key RTO and RPO undoubtedly will change. These are 3 steps to reduce overall impact Frequency of backup More backups enable you to have a larger playground of data to access should a situation arise. Block recovery Save time and money by isolating key blocks of mission-critical data that have changed since your last backup was performed. Replication By replicating your data, you instantly have a copy of your data that you can fall back on should a disaster occur, which decreases your recovery time objectives. Testing RPO and RTO As with any element of business, from marketing to processes, hardware to software, RPOs and RTOs do not supersede testing and measurement.

If you go with a “ Database as a Service “ on your favourite cloud provider then your life is much easier. There are 3 key reasons behind it: 1- Your provider will be taking care of maintaining a smoother DR plan 2- Your developer will be more focused on writing the Code for the core applications 3- Your DevOps team will be spending more time in productive tasks rather than worrying about testing the DR and fixing the bugs Since “ Time” is more valuable than “ Money” so as a customer you must think of adopting more and more SaaS products as compared to IaaS . This is my perspective!!! Best regards Purshottam #LEARNWITHPURSHOTTAM
