One thing I have found helpful is to be proactive, be more empowered to take on work beyond your designation and embrace working with multiple stakeholders which both internal and external. Adapt quickly to client servicing and understand their needs, and soon become first point of contact for your client instead of your boss. Work on projects which are even out of your comfort zone and keep oneself updated with current affairs and media.

I work in a vibrant, multi-cultural workplace with an incredible, diverse, and high-functioning team. I worked for the Colorado Judicial Branch for several years and, during that time, I had a very specific role. However, each role in my dept. was integral to the function of the others. I gained the most expertise during my time there by being open to doing jobs that were not exactly within my position description.
