Well, in my experience the best approach to assessing a problem is to have a clear view of its importance in your scale of priorities, if it's urgent and important for you, it must solved immediately if it's important but not urgent, maybe you can reflect on it for some more time, if it's urgent but not important, do you need to solve it? most of the nonimportant problems have way of solving themselves with time. If it's important and urgent you should transform it into a goal and use SWOT matrix to uncover strategies to deal with it.

Reflect on the type of problems you like to work on. There are many types of problems: technical, systemic, organizational, social, etc. and most often there are areas that you intrinsically feel drawn to and others that you don’t. The areas you feel drawn to are the areas in which you are more likely to excel with practice: when you’re naturally wired to work on a type of problem, it’s enjoyable, you learn quicker and it’s just easier to put in the work if you like it. The ones that you don’t are likely to be pitfall-areas for you. It makes sense to practice these to develop a new perspective or even just for the purpose of appreciating the qualities a person would need to excel at them.
