Inspire 3 recording runs as walks

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

When I click start exercise, I change walk to run. I can see my Fitbit app is set to Run when I push the Start button. At the end of my run, when I push the Stop and Finish buttons, Fitbit records it as a walk. I’m running a 6:40 minute kilometer, which is much faster than I walk. This has been happening for several weeks now. I installed the latest software update, but it didn’t fix it. Thanks for your help.

@Gr4ndp4 Thank you for your help.

@PurrMoreHissLes , A warm welcome to the Community !Thank you for your information and efforts.

Just to confirm. You start the activity on the Inspire 3 or on the Fitbit app?

In the meantime, please make sure that the times on SmartTrack (autorecognize from activities) are different so that the tracked activity will not be overwritten by the one detected automatically. Here you'll find how to do it.

    Hi JuanFitbit,

I start the exercise on the Fitbit app on my phone by clicking Start
Exercise and then changing the Exercise Type to Run. Screenshots are
    attached.

I don't know what you mean by "In the meantime, please make sure that the
times on SmartTrack (autorecognize from activities) are different so that
the tracked activity will not be overwritten by the one detected
    automatically."

If I start an exercise, why would Fitbit autorecognize it as a different
    exercise?

    Thank you for your help.

@PurrMoreHissLes , Thank you for your reply.

The Inspire 3 as most of the Fitbit devices has the option for SmartTrack. This feature recognizes your movement patterns to start recording your activity.
In cases where the movement patter are similar and the starting time to recognize it as the same or very near eg. 5 min. , it can happen that the tracker recognizes another activity as the one performed.  That's why we recommend to have different starting times for the different activities.

As you start the activity on your phone, what may have happened in your case, is that the Inspire 3 autoregonized your activity as walking. The record on the Inspire 3 would have overwritten the activity recorded by the app.
The feature that you are using on the phone is mobilerun. This is thought to be used when/if you don't take the Fitbit on your walk/run and you still want to record your activity!(eg. when charging, etc)  This feature uses the sensors on your phone to get your data.

The best way to record your activity is to swipe the clock face until you see the activities. Select Run and start it on the tracker itself. Or let it autorecognize it.
If you want to use the GPS to record a map of your activity, please have a look at this:

Swipe right or left to the Exercise app JuanFitbit_0-1707413626037.png, then swipe up to find an exercise.

    1. Tap to choose an exercise, then swipe up through the exercise settings.
    2. Tap GPS to turn it on.
    3. Swipe down to return to the exercise screen.

Keep in mind to have the Fitbit app running on the background and to take your phone for this with you .

Thanks for explaining the problem. If it’s not possible for a user choice to take precedence to an auto feature then maybe the app needs a warning that you shouldn’t bother using it because it’ll just be overwritten? ☹️

@Jorodemo , Nice to see you around. Thank you for your comment and feedback.

The information does not always get overwritten. It happens occasionally . Your idea is very interesting. The best place to post your suggestion is the Product Feedback board in the Fitbit community Please take a moment and give us your comments.

I have the same problem with Charge 5.  All runs recorded through the app end up as walks when I am done.  I have auto-track turned off for runs so it doesn't double-record the same activity.  I've tried tracking runs direct from my Charge 5 in the past but the GPS never works.  I've had it set to all 3 modes (phone/dynamic/built-in).  I like using the app to track so I can see map and hear voice cues.  A couple weeks ago I found a post with instructions to edit exercise after it's logged, but now that doesn't work either.  My map, distance, and pace are all correct it's just the label on the activity that's wrong.

My charge 5/app is doing the exact same thing. Have you found a solution? I also appreciate the cues and map. I just finished a run and it changed it to walk.

I think the solution is to start the exercise on the Fitbit, not the app.  To get the map, app settings must be location=always, cellular data on, and run in background on (these are iPhone settings, I imagine the Android app has equivalent settings.)  I have never started my exercise with the app and I have never had the app change the exercise from what I started on the Fitbit.  Sometimes I walk and sometimes I run.

    Hi all,

Adding to this thread that I am also experiencing this issue where I select run to start tracking and it gets saved as a walk. I prefer to start it on my phone so that I get the audio cues in my earbuds. I am also experiencing the issue where I am unable to edit exercise categories, compounding my frustration.
