Don't have enough space on your phone for the Uber app? No worries.
You can now book, complete, and pay for an Uber right from the Google Maps app, even when you don't have the Uber app installed on your device.
"Once you sign into your existing Uber account (or create one), you can book an Uber ride, track your driver on the map, and connect with your driver—all from within the Google Maps app," Google Senior Product Manager Sara McKinley Torti announced in a blog post Thursday.
Google is also making it super easy to access handy information about your destination—like menus and hours—when you're en route. Now, once you book your ride, this information is "only a swipe away," Torti wrote.
Meanwhile, things will look a little different from now on when you open the Google Maps ride services mode. Going forward, you'll see a map along with a side-scrolling carousel of ride service options in your area, such as UberPool, UberX, UberXL and various options from Lyft and Gett, where available. Before, there was just a long list of ride service providers and options. Check out the new look to the right.
"From booking a ride to reserving a table at a local restaurant, booking your favorite fitness class to ordering delivery for a night in, Google Maps no longer just shows you the information you're looking for," Torti wrote. "It also makes it easier to get things done in the real world — all in one place."
These updates are rolling out globally to the Google Maps apps for iOS and Android.
Google last March added the ride services tab to Maps offering Uber fare estimates and pickup times, and in September added Lyft and Gett to the mix. This lets people easily compare prices without having to download and open a bunch of different apps.
