AN 80-year-old tree was blown over in strong winds at a Huddersfield residential and training home - but it proved to be a blessing in disguise.

The 60ft ash collapsed in the woodland area at Cliffe House, Shepley.

The Grade II listed Victorian house provides residential breaks for schools and training for businesses.

Bosses called in New Mill tree surgeons Clifton Tree Care to deal with the problem.

And owner Paul Buxton and his team chopped the tree up to provide benches and chippings for a footpath.

"It was nice to be able to make something nice out of a bad situation," he said.

Cliffe House manager is Kevin Fitzpatrick said: "It turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise."
