(WEB AUTHeNtication) An authentication method from the W3C and the FIDO Alliance that uses public key cryptography. WebAuthn can be used by itself or with biometrics and second-factor methods, and it can be implemented entirely in software or with hardware such as the Trusted Platform Module (see TPM). WebAuthn is used in FIDO2 authentication along with protocols for hardware tokens. See FIDO and FIDO protocols.
