(General Data Protection Regulation) A European Union compliance regulation that went into effect in 2018. The GDPR requires that companies know what data they collect and where they are stored. Whereas the Data Protection Directive, which the GDPR replaces, covered only EU companies, the GDPR extends jurisdiction to any organization that collects data from EU citizens.
