Instagram Video Import

The next time you want to upload a video to Instagram, you won't have to worry about actually shooting it in the app.

The photo and video-sharing social network on Wednesday updated its mobile apps with Instagram 4.1, giving you the ability to import video from your phone's library and share it on Instagram, no matter when it was filmed. Previously, you could only upload video recorded in the app, as is still the case with Twitter's Vine. Now, you can select a video clip you want to import into Instagram from your phone's media library, then trim it down to 15 seconds and choose how you want to to square-crop the clip.

Meanwhile, Android users will be happy to hear that Instagram has also expanded the video feature to Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich." Previously, it was only available on devices running Jellybean 4.1 and above.

"Since the launch of Video on Instagram this has been the Android community's No. 1 request, and we're excited to see this community grow," Instagram wrote in a blog post.

Instagram 4.1 also includes a new automatic straightening feature for iOS devices.

"There are few things more distracting than a crooked horizon in a photo. We're happy to announce that we've developed a brand new technology that brings you straight photos instantly," Instagram wrote.

When you take a photo with the in-app camera, you can now tap the Straighten icon and your photo will be automatically fixed. There's also a slider so you can manually rotate and adjust any photo, including those imported from your phone's library, so it's perfect.

Instagram 4.1 is available for download in the App Store and Google Play.
