Brittani Kollar is the deputy director of MediaWise, Poynter’s digital media literacy project that teaches people of all ages how to spot misinformation online. As deputy director, Brittani oversees MediaWise’s global strategic partnerships, programming and operations. This includes partnering with stakeholders worldwide to implement media literacy projects, collaborating with universities to conduct research studies and creating a global network of media literacy experts and organizations that convene monthly. Brittani has trained journalists and journalism students globally on fact-checking, media literacy and journalism best practices.

Brittani joined the Poynter Institute after a 13-year career at CNN. She spent seven years working on the international affiliate news desk, partnering with CNN’s global partners on daily and breaking news coverage. Beginning in 2014, she managed various training initiatives, including the CNN Fellowship and the CNN Bootcamp. The programs were designed for professional journalists working at CNN’s international affiliates and for journalism students enrolled at partner universities. During the CNN Fellowship’s tenure, more than 1,000 journalists were trained on a range of journalism best practices, including ethics in reporting and writing an impactful story. In 2018, Brittani hosted former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, during their visit to CNN Center.
