It is essential as a society and a culture that we work on rebuilding trust in our institutions and in our government. One way we can do this is through transparency in government. This is an inspiring interview with Audrey Tang, Taiwan's first Minister of Digital Affairs, and is well worth your time to listen to and consider. Audrey Tang’s localized uses of AI large language models to dramatically improve personal productivity, and thinking of AI tools as “assistive technology,” is right on target. “Open Source Beats Authoritarianism” episode on #HowToFixTheInternet [PODCAST] https://lnkd.in/egjPmGXE #HealOurCulture #BigTech #corruption #politics #AI

"More than 20 years ago, the political scientist Francis Fukuyama characterized the Information Technology revolution as "benign" but cautioned that "the most significant threat posed by contemporary biotechnology is the possibility that it will alter human nature and thereby move us into a post-human stage of history." From Twitter to CRISPR to ChatGPT, a lot has changed since then. In this episode of Faster, Please! — The Podcast, Dr. Fukuyama shares his thoughts on those developments and the recent advances in generative AI, as well as the cultural importance of science fiction."
🌎 My chat (+transcript) with political scientist Francis Fukuyama on technological change and liberal democracy. Some sci-fi, too!

Fortunately, at least in this case, the change in the AI version's voice (deeper, lower register) was the tip off. But only because it was intercut with the real (as far as we know!) Anderson Cooper and the comparison was easy to make. How will we know in the future? Our best defense against fakes - other than some future analysis software tool for detecting the subtle artifacts of fakery - is knowledge about an individual's world view, political ideology, education, background etc. An outlandish point of view that is uncharacteristic or inconsistent for an individual who's appearance and statements are being faked, or out of sync with established facts, will be immediately suspect. But this will depend on the viewer's/listener's ability to recognize this. If your critical thinking skills and a healthy skepticism are reasonably well-developed, you'll be in a position to question what you are seeing and hearing, no matter how brilliant the fakery may be. The potential threat is substantial, and in some cases, the outcomes have been, and in the future will be, tragic. Even before AI came on the scene, misinformation that fed people’s fear, bigotry and paranoia, created social discord and got people killed.
Here is a sneak preview of Matyas Bohacek's deepfake version of CNN's Anderson Cooper. The full episode will air on Sunday at 8:00 pm (ET).

Abundance 4 ALL - Sense & Sciences. Systemic Designer. Business & Policy Educator. Biomimetics - Journalist, Researcher & Writer
How do we know what we know and find common sense on a complex planet without saying and doing dumb things? Well, the Greeks have been pondering about that for centuries. And when we are in Greece, this old (and new) wisdom automatically flows into our heads. It's like putting a book under your pillow. Ever done that as a teen? Nowadays, we call it Plato's Problem. This man, Naom Chomsky, has been at it for decades. He calls it intellectual self-defense. Power structures always have the aim to control people. Religion. Propaganda. Authoritative leadership. Emotional manipulation. Okay, so why are Mike and I not as famous as Noam? We don't fit the intellectual 'normal'. Mike is black. I'm a woman between leading men who are fighting to be the silverback on the mountain. Mike and I make healthy strategies that blow people's minds off. Recently, I've been posting comments on many posts: "Where are the colors, young people, women?" And the remark, often from males, is: "Some people make everything into a gender issue." No, I'm not. I'm talking about morphic resonance (biology, deep ecology), role models, and NLP. Neuro Linguistic Programming. We are biological mirrors. We keep certain people small. In the 1980s, NLP was standard material in sales and marketing courses. Mimic the posture of a person and he/she trusts me more (biology). Sales relationships are about trust. Marketing uses neuromarketing. It's a fact of life. You better KNOW, so you can fight manipulation in yourself. However, there's good news on the block. We are changing systems. Start with soil and water maps. Let nature do the work. No inflation. Easy-peasy. Web3 makes a lot possible now. It's a system of trust BY DESIGN. And my partners and I are gonna spread good solutions and clever thinking with AI. Echo chambers have their advantages 😂 if you go counter-cliche. Roads can clean water. Buildings can clean the air. And cities can cool the planet with colors and evaporation. I'm just finishing another synergy strategy for a government that wants to grow its economy. EU change-making using trends. We can definitely become an adaptive species on this VUCA planet. Volatile. Uncertain. Complex. Ambiguous. What does it require? Independent thinkers! How do you become an independent thinker? Put yourself on a news diet! And sleep deeply! That's when the magic happens... Media keep you in an echo chamber. Energy matters! Get out of the negative zone where fear rules. You are bombarded with drama and exceptions. You see a plane crash. You don't see the millions that stay in the air. So, planes have become negative in our minds. That's superficial thinking. Ukraine is bad. But it's also a good lesson about global economies and rebuilding environments after wars and destructions. In the old days, wars lasted 80 years, remember? Think NLP and deep ecology. And morphogenetic resonance (biology). #independentthinking #education

We live in a time of incredible political & cultural division and alienation. Many have told me it’s become almost impossible to have productive, open discussions or debates with people with different views. This is a recipe for societal disaster. So, with NTD's Steve Lance, we're launching a new series bringing together lawmakers from across the political spectrum to explore key issues facing America. The goal? To facilitate civil discourse, starting with issues where some agreement exists, and building towards the more difficult topics. Please join us for the first episode of Civil Discourse with Reps. Ken Buck and Ted Lieu on the threat of #AI—and what to do about it. 🔹 Watch more on EpochTV: https://www.EpochTV.com
