- Arguably, the two most important data governance roles are data owners and data stewards. However, let's remember that data governance is an enterprise responsibility. Let's explore other responsibilities in this area too. When asked who has responsibility for data governance in an organization? The correct answer should be everyone. Much like requiring staff to agree to support core business processes or a code of ethics, if an organization employs data governance, the expectation must be that all staff agree to support the function of data governance. After all, today it seems everyone touches data as a matter of day-to-day business. That said, let's recognize that many department leaders and staff have specific roles to play.
