Think like an executive

- Communicating with executives can play a big role in your career. Whether it's with a customer or a member of your leadership team, these moments are important, but they also can come with a lot of anxiety. I'm Dan Shapero, Chief Operating Officer at LinkedIn, and in 2015, I host a small gathering of leaders from across the company to share my best practices that I've learned over the course of my career, and someone videotaped it. It went viral across the organization, and what I learned from that experience is that these tactics are rarely taught. Now, the beginning of it is that if you want to effectively communicate with an executive, you need to learn to think like an executive. You need to be able to understand what's going on in their minds, what questions are they asking, because if you can do that, then you can create an environment where you present the information that's going to help them be successful so that you can be successful.
