We are looking for a Senior Buyer, Indirect Procurement who will grow at our Marysville, OH corporate headquarters. This is preferred to be a hybrid role (2-3 days in the office)

The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing approximately $100+ million of various indirect goods with a focus on Marketing and services. Additionally, the Senior Buyer drives projects at the executive level within Scotts and at the executive level of our suppliers. This position relies on internal and external collaboration as well as good organizational and communication skills.

In this role you will:


  • Develop category strategies, secure customer alignment, and execute.
  • Lead assigned sourcing projects and drives them to successful completion, including market analysis, the RFX process, negotiations, contract creation, and contract management.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal Business partners
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives to align with company goals
  • Participate in higher-order procurement activities such as internal demand management and partnering with suppliers for innovation to add value and achieve continuous process improvement
  • Drive industry analyses: assess micro- and macro-economic factors and conduct financial analyses to identify industry opportunities and create strategies for risk mitigation
  • Identify and gain alignment to pursue new savings/value add opportunities
  • Determine total cost of ownership for products and services procured
  • Adhere to budgetary constraints
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential
  • Drive supplier scorecards / ratings on an ongoing basis to measure supplier performance
  • Demonstrate a bias toward action and ability to work autonomously
  • Travel occasionally as business needs dictate
  • Support colleagues during creation of e-sourcing platform events and contract workspaces
  • Develop and execute Ariba/SAP KPI and compliance reports
  • Lead cross functional meetings to track resolution of Ariba/SAP issues and progress on key system enhancements
  • Support development of systems roadmap for Procurement, evaluation and documentation of current systems, leading new system implementations, and other system support as needed


The perfect person will have:


  • BS or BA in business related field
  • 4-7 years procurement experience
  • Negotiation skills
  • Analytical and strategic thought process
  • Proven record in leading change and implementing new procurement concepts
  • Expertise in financial analysis with knowledge in cost model development
  • Team player with the ability to work on cross-functional teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (SAP, Ariba, Google Workspace and MS Office Suite)
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills


Some other nice to haves:


  • Marketing and Media Procurement experience
  • Indirect Procurement experience
  • Ariba P2P experience


The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $85,100.00 - $100,100.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
