We are seeking a Senior Health Benefits Consultant to join the East Region. Offices include Washington, DC, Boston, Hartford and Atlanta.

The Opportunity: The Senior Consultantwill join a growing and dynamic practice and step into a multi-faceted role that offers the opportunity to impact the growth of our group health consulting practice significantly and positively while serving clients across public sector, multiemployer and corporate markets.

The Role: The Senior Consultant will collaborate with others in the Practice and Company to service the benefits consulting needs of large health clients. The role will involve significant client interaction to include assisting clients in defining their benefit program needs focusing on plan design, funding, administration and compliance for group health programs. The Senior Consultant assumes a leadership role over select client relationships, provides hands on project management for complex assignments, and collaborates closely with colleagues to develop and implement strategic plans and provide trusted advice for clients while ensuring client satisfaction. The successful will demonstrate leadership by coordinating and/or contributing to initiatives designed to build intellectual capability and know-how around the delivery of creative group health and welfare programs. The successful candidate will also assume accountability for multi-disciplinary projects to include planning/budgeting, quality assurance in the delivery of work products and lead and participate in business development activities to grow Company revenue and profitability.

Responsibilities

The role also requires demonstrated expertise in health and welfare underwriting and plan funding. Projects and/or responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

  • Plan design and competitive benchmarking
  • Cost projections and rate setting for self-funded health plans
  • Vendor management including renewals and problem resolution
  • Multi-stream project management
  • Development of bid specifications and evaluation of vendor proposals
  • Expertise in effective health plan cost management strategies
  • Mentoring and training of junior staff and detailed quality review of their work
  • Expertise in life, disability and voluntary benefits

The Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 9 years of consulting-related experience in the employee benefits or health insurance areas, possess strong knowledge of self-funded group health plans and be able to step immediately into a role that requires direct client interface. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong underwriting and analytical skills, with credentials such as CEBS a positive. The individual will have demonstrated project management skills and ability to participate in business development activities. Also required are effective interpersonal and communication (oral/written) skills with ability to work collaboratively with a diverse audience of colleagues and clients.

The current salary range for this position is $130,000 to $165,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
