Position Overview

Working under the guidance of the Director of Communications and Resource Mobilization, The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and organizing local advocacy initiatives, volunteer efforts, and outreach events at Mamatoto Village, collaborating across departments to strategically expand the organization's presence, deepen relationships with community members, and elevate the organization’s influence. This full-time position is based in the Mamatoto Village office.

Outreach & Engagement

  • Represent the organization at local coalition activities and advocacy events under the direction of the Executive Director or Director of Communications and Resource Mobilization
  • Engage in regular collaboration and communication with internal staff to coordinate impact strategies into development, communications, and program activities
  • Participate in local and regional coalitions, ANC meetings, and community outreach and networking events, as directed, to advance Mamatoto Village’s mission and vision
  • Make contact and develop rapport with community members, organizations, and agencies as directed by the supervisor
  • Support programming, communications, and operational strategies to deepen relationships with Black birthing people, partner agencies, and community members
  • Identify opportunities to further organizational strategic priorities and strengthen the base of community relationships
  • Plan, execute, and facilitate a calendar of outreach and engagement activities/events where we can increase Mamatoto Village’s brand awareness
  • Monitor community engagement activities, contribute to reports, and participate in the development of program evaluation projects
  • Maintain knowledge about basic elements of the organization’s core programming

Relationship Management

  • Identify partnerships and collaborations that will advance the organization’s mission and increase engagement, resource alignment, and investment in the organization’s strategic priorities
  • Manage the process of onboarding, orientation, and ongoing retention of engagement relationships
  • Steward positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate the internal preparation for partnership meetings, including scheduling, development of agendas, note-taking, and necessary follow-up
  • As requested, support the data and research team in executing community-based participatory research projects

Event Planning

  • Oversee the planning and organization of outreach events, town halls, forums, and table talks under the direction of the Director of Communications and Resource Mobilization
  • Develop and plan outreach events at the direction of the Director of Communications & Resource Mobilization
  • Assist in organizing internal and external events, as assigned by the Director of Communications & Resource Mobilization

Volunteer Coordination

  • Engage and recruit volunteers through various channels, fostering partnerships with local organizations and schools
  • Coordinate with departmental leadership to identify volunteer opportunities and ensure alignment with organizational needs
  • Manage volunteer documentation, training, and supervision
  • Maintain volunteer database and schedules, and conduct evaluations to optimize volunteer engagement and experience

Administrative Duties

  • Participate in ongoing professional development as necessary and directed by the supervisor
  • Track volunteer, internship, and outreach metrics and regularly report to the Director of Communications & Resource Mobilization
  • Provide input to the department implementing the strategic plan to help deepen community relationships, involvement, and impact
  • Complete daily time-tracking in Harvest

Skills And Requirements To Foster Success

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Social Work, or another relevant field, and at least three years of relevant experience
  • Strong familiarity with human rights, reproductive and birth justice, and maternal and child health issues
  • Demonstrated capacity to set priorities, work on multiple complex and detail-oriented projects, often on a time-sensitive basis, and work effectively individually and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Meets, Slides, etc.)
  • Experience in volunteering and recruitment
  • Excellent organization and team-building skills
  • Must be able to work with sensitive and protected information in a confidential manner
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication; Skills in writing notes and reports
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Strong focus on being strategic, problem-solving, and solution-focused
  • Ability to organize and maintain complete, accurate records and file reports promptly
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel occasionally (estimated up to 30% of the time)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop trusting relationships with diverse constituencies and communities
  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, and execute outreach events and other engagement tactics
