As a Legal Assistant, you will provide administrative support to our legal team and assist with various legal tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in the legal field to gain valuable experience and contribute to a dynamic law firm.
Duties:
- Conduct legal research using Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, and other legal research tools
- Assist with document management, including organizing and maintaining physical and electronic files
- Prepare and draft legal documents, such as pleadings, briefs, contracts, and agreements
- Coordinate and schedule meetings, hearings, and court appearances
- Assist attorneys with case management, including tracking deadlines and maintaining case calendars
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel in a professional manner
- Perform general clerical duties, such as answering phone calls, filing documents, and managing correspondence
- Assist in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal is preferred however we will consider entry level candidates or those without legal experience
- Proficiency in using legal case management software and document management systems
- Strong research skills with the ability to navigate legal databases effectively (Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, MD Case Search, Land Records, SDAT)
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and proofreading
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Preferred candidate will have experience with Maryland State and Federal Courts, including MDEC, Pacer/EMECF
- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures
