POSITION TITLE: Day Camp Director
REPORTS TO: Recreation Manager
SUPERVISES: Camp Counselors & MVP Volunteers
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the day to day activities of a group of school age children participating in the day camp program; plans and follows a daily lesson plan; plans and leads a variety of games, crafts, songs and activities related to a theme week; follows directions of recreation manager; works with other staff members in organizing all camp special events; maintains a safe atmosphere; and communicates effectively with parents, staff, volunteers and supervisors.

Position Qualification Requirements
Education: Currently enrolled or have graduated from College.
Experience: 2-3 years camp experience required; supervisory experience preferred.

Essential Functions
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Knows, understands and enforces rules and regulations governing day camp procedures, facility use and the facility emergency procedures.
- Plans a variety of programs and activities based on theme weeks.
- Assigns duties to and supervises counselors and volunteers.
- Provides a weekly lesson plan to the recreation supervisor.
- Communicates effectively with campers, parents, staff, volunteers and director.
- Disciplines campers in a fair and effective manner; counsels with parents as necessary.
- Oversees maintenance of building, supplies and equipment; inspects for safety.
- Maintains all camp equipment and supplies utilized in a day of activities.
- Knows whereabouts of campers at all times.
- Administers first aid; contacts parents; contacts emergency vehicles as needed.
- Submits all forms and paperwork as required in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintains camp areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Informs supervisor of all information regarding the facility, staff and campers.
- Notifies supervisor of supply needs or equipment repair.
- Disciplines staff and volunteers as necessary.
- Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
- Assist in setups and cleanup as needed.
- Keeps a daily log of all camp activities.
- Escorts all field trips maintaining a safe atmosphere.
- Performs special projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assists facility staff as needed to provide room set ups or maintenance.
- Sitting, talking, hearing, walking.
- Concentrated mental and visual attention with normal hand - eye coordination required.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches - corrected or uncorrected.
- Occasional moving of 1 to 60 lb. items.

- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, children and public.
- Ability to plan and lead games, crafts, songs and activities.
- Ability to supervised staff in an effective manner.
- Ability to positively communicate with parents.
- Ability to function efficiently under stress related factors consistent with the position.
- Ability to work days.
- Must be able to supervise a camp of 160+, providing a safe, disciplined, and fun atmosphere.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
