Visibility and impact of your social activity in groups

Last updated: 2 months ago

LinkedIn Groups provides a place for professionals in the same industry or with similar interests to share content, network, and more. LinkedIn’s systems track and analyze social actions, such as creating a post or liking or commenting on another member’s post within Groups. This data is used by our algorithms to provide content relevant to you in your LinkedIn feed and within the Groups product.

Visibility of members’ social activity depends on the group type. Public groups allow anyone on or off LinkedIn to view what members post and share in the group. Non-group members can interact with the public group’s content using reactions but can’t add comments or create new posts. Public group posts are visible, for example, in the group’s homepage, on the feed, or in a message.

In private groups, only members of the group can view, post, or comment on conversations within that group. This activity isn’t made public or shown to your connections that aren’t members of the private group. Private group members may see each other’s posts, likes, and comments within the group, or in their LinkedIn feed.

For both public and private groups, members can use the share box on the LinkedIn homepage to post to their group directly by using the visibility options.

Information about groups you join may be used to show more relevant ads. You can opt-out in your LinkedIn Ads settings.
