📈 Last week we hosted 14 banks for a deep-dive on the topic of USD #intraday #repo, followed by a simulated trading session on the Finteum trading platform for front-office users. Representatives from a US regulator also observed. 🎙 Across the three days we gathered feedback on features and our settlement structure before we add live repo capabilities to our funding platform, expected in Q3. Thank you to Clearstream and Deutsche Börse for organising a fantastic #GFF Summit. Our co-founder Brian Nolan spoke on a panel on digital #repo and intraday liquidity. The panelists agreed on the benefits of #DvP digital repo, including increased speed and 24/7 settlement. Brian highlighted that market participants can start this process by transacting in intraday repo, settling in existing infrastructure they are already using, such as BNY Mellon triparty, or #T2S. Brian and Daniel John Godsell will certainly be back next year for another 3 days of productive discussions and delivery of intraday repo markets.

We are looking forward to engaging & productive discussions at UK Asset and Liability Management Association Limited's 31st Annual Conference this Thursday and Friday. Last week saw Daniel John Godsell take a trip to Canada to present and discuss the Finteum intraday funding platform with treasury and liquidity teams from CIBC, RBC, BMO, TD, Scotiabank and National Bank of Canada. As intraday data collection and cost allocation continues to rapidly improve, we've seen increased business need for new tools that can control liquidity usage, reduce credit line utility and even generate additional revenue by lending surplus cash for a few hours. A big thank you all attendees for the lively discussion, and particularly to Nicolas Nadeau of NBC and François Franzl of Oliver Wyman for putting the event together. Also to fellow speakers Nick Miles of RTGS.global and Nick Jepson of Planixs, as well as Byron Byrd for hosting the networking drinks.

As the year draws to a close 🗓 we've listed a few of our highlights from the past 12 months. 🚀 Bring on 2024, where Finteum will bring intraday funding products to the interbank market. Happy Holidays all!

Financial technology continued its advance in 2023, accompanied by deeper discussions, use cases, and testing across the industry. We have collected some highlights over the past year that we think may impact the intraday markets as we head into 2024. Commercial bank payment initiatives progressed and gained increased traction: • Fnality International moved closer to production, with its GBP Fnality Payment System to be launched first. • More banks joined the Partior payment network, including SMBC Group and Deutsche Bank. JPM Coin was also launched on Partior. • JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s Coin Systems launched EUR payments to join it’s already-live USD. This opens the possibilities for fully tokenized FX transactions. • The Regulated Liability Network launched trials on both wholesale CBDCs & retail commercial bank money. • BNY Mellon announced it will support intraday repo in its triparty system. • Planixs launched its liquidity data insights solution. • Baton Systems launched its Core-Payments product for throttling, also known as settlement orchestration. • RTGS.global Global completed its first instant settlement FX trade. • The SWIAT project by DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale is set to launch integration with T2 so payment confirmations go directly onto the interbank ledger. The European Central Bank established the New Technologies for Wholesale settlement Contact Group (“NTW–CG”), exploring DLT-based opportunities and initiatives and how they may relate to a digital Euro. The planned trial for 2024 involves interoperability work and the testing of DLT-based infrastructure solutions & use cases. On the technology side DLT technology is increasingly adopted by the banking industry. The next step is interoperability between different platforms often built on different protocols. One important interoperability development was that R3, Adhara, Fnality & HQLAᵡ launched the Harmonia Lab, which is to work on cross-chain atomic settlements & standardization. Wholesale CBDCs are increasingly in the pipeline but are not there yet. There are currently 11 live CBDCs, but all of them are retail and mostly implemented in rather small island economies of the Caribbean. A further 21 CBDCs are in the pilot stage, and 33 more are in development. Many of those are wholesale CBDCs in large and major economies. The Corda-based Finteum Platform has a proven cross-chain capability, having undertaken a test intraday FX swap with the Ethereum-based Fnality in late 2022. Increasing competition between settlement solutions and technologies runs a risk of market fragmentation without a sufficient focus on interoperability and shared standards in 2024. Finteum is a settlement-agnostic execution venue and can integrate with multiple settlement avenues, allowing client banks to solve their funding needs more efficiently & with less friction. The Finteum Platform offers banks the ability to trade intraday FX swaps & intraday repo with each other.

💡 Finteum's capabilities as a #DLT-native wholesale execution venue, including for #intraday trades, was raised by attendee banks discussing ideas and proposals for PvP transactions, part of the ECB's 'New Technologies for Wholesale settlement - Contact Group'. 🔀 The Finteum Platform has proven interoperability with various on and off-chain settlement systems.
