Some considerations I’ve explored with my career coaching clients aged 55-65 years old. Answering these questions is one of the first steps in creating a Retirement Transition plan 1) what does perfect retirement look like to you? 2) what is your monthly budget requirement ? Do you need to augment your pension? 3) is there a possibility to move into a contract role with your employer ? 4) is moving out of the country one of your goals (perhaps to a place where cost of living is lower?)
Consider volunteering your skills to non-profit organizations or local community projects. This can be an enriching way to give back and stay active. By applying your product design expertise to solve real-world problems, you maintain a sense of purpose and contribute to meaningful causes. Volunteering can also provide the social interaction and routine that many retirees miss after leaving their full-time careers.
As you prepare for retirement, don't overlook the importance of planning for your health. Ensure you have a comprehensive healthcare plan and consider the costs of potential long-term care needs. Staying physically active, eating well, and keeping up with regular medical check-ups are crucial for enjoying your retirement years to the fullest. Good health allows you to partake in all the activities you've been looking forward to without unnecessary limitations.
Finally, embrace lifelong learning as a key component of your retirement strategy. Whether it's taking courses related to product design or delving into entirely new subjects, continuous learning keeps your mind sharp and can be incredibly fulfilling. It also opens doors to new experiences and friendships, enriching your retirement life beyond measure.
