What do you do if your colleagues are struggling with work-life balance?
Recognizing the signs that your colleagues are struggling with work-life balance is the first step to offering support. As you navigate your day-to-day tasks in office administration, you might notice telltale signs of burnout or stress in your peers. They may be working long hours, showing signs of fatigue, or expressing concern over their workload. It's important to approach the situation with empathy, understanding that work-life balance is essential for maintaining productivity and overall well-being.
When you see a colleague overwhelmed, offer a supportive ear and help brainstorm solutions. You could suggest practical ways to manage their workload more efficiently, like prioritizing tasks or sharing tips on time management. Sometimes, just knowing someone is there to listen can alleviate stress. Remember to respect their privacy and provide assistance without overstepping, as everyone has different boundaries when it comes to discussing personal matters at work.

Work life balance for me is a very personal term. This will importantly mean that one has complete control over their work deliverables. Once this happens, availing levy and flexibility is easy and confident. If I find someone struggling to find this balance, I encourage them the mentioned three points to begin with, 1. Ensure complete know-how of the work responsibilities and to be confident on the deliverables - so that there is no work thought or pressure in mind while you take the time off. 2. Being abreast about every information or situation. Staying well connected with the team to gather and share information wherever necessary. 3. Being honest about commitments to self and others. Be unapologetic about personal commitments.
-
Any pressures outside the work certainly have a direct impact on work and productivity and can also generate mistakes. Providing possible psychological and financial support is considered one of the positive influences that make employees more stable. there are some companies employ psychological consultants to help employees overcome some of the obstacles related to them, which will have a positive and direct impact at work.
-
When a coworker is striving to maintain a balance between work and personal life or achieve a better equilibrium, what we can do is first acknowledge the positive aspect of it because everyone hopes to have balance in their lives to feel happier and comfortable wherever they are. Secondly, seeing occasional conferences during work as a normal part of daily dynamics, we shouldn't show antipathy or view them negatively. Thus, when they usually work overtime but then don't due to prioritizing family time, they should identify it. We should see it as something unprecedented in society, which can motivate others to do the same.
-
Recently, I had an experience where my colleague was seemingly not feeling well but still working, so I approached him and offered him a hand. To my surprise, he was happy that he got support; he thanked me and continued to work without taking the help, but he was more productive and confident knowing that we care about him and that he is not alone. This amazed me; sometimes, offering help and showing care can do a lot for someone who is struggling.
-
If you notice that your colleagues are struggling with work-life balance, you have the power to inspire and support them. Encourage them to take breaks and prioritize their tasks. Offer help when you can and suggest that they speak with their manager about adjusting their schedule or workload. Remember, everyone's situation and needs are different, so approach the situation with empathy and understanding. Together, you can create a work environment that fosters both productivity and well-being.
-
Lend an ear and chat with empathy. Sharing personal experiences on task prioritizing, time management and keeping separate dedicated time for work and home makes it more relatable and achievable. If the colleague is ready to brainstorm, finding out the activity/person/situation which makes the colleague feel work-life imbalance and how to work around it, will make them feel relieved as they will have something concrete to work on and hope of making things better. Remember to respect the boundaries and maintain confidentiality while discussing personal matters.
-
1.Offer a supportive ear to overwhelmed colleagues. 2.Brainstorm practical solutions together. 3.Suggest efficient workload management techniques. 4.Respect their privacy and boundaries. 5.Provide assistance without overstepping.
-
Things that found helpful: Create an open space for colleagues to discuss their challenges and provide regular check-ins to monitor stress levels, offering support and guidance as needed ,sharing time management tips as well as encourage taking breaks when feeling overwhelmed and respect privacy when discussing personal matters at work.
Encouraging your colleagues to take regular breaks can significantly impact their work-life balance. Remind them that stepping away from the desk for a short walk or a coffee break can help clear their mind and reduce stress. If you have break areas or a staff room, invite them to join you for a brief respite. Breaks are not just good for mental health; they can also boost productivity by allowing time to recharge.
-
One of the best ways to encourage your team to take breaks is to model the behavior yourself. Show them that you value your own health and balance by taking regular breaks throughout the day. Share what you do during your breaks, such as stretching, walking, meditating, or reading.
-
Breaks are a good way to break up your routine and engage in something which can help you relax and lift your mood. Use your break to do something that you know you will enjoy and that can lift your spirit, like engaging in social life or pursuing your hobby.
-
Absolutely! Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial for overall well-being and productivity. Value breaks and flexibility in your work routine. Remember, a balanced approach leads to better outcomes in both professional and personal aspects of life.
-
My coworkers and I take “walkies” to help remove ourselves from our desks and get some fresh air. We also practice yoga and go for coffee runs to get out of the office.
-
Life's a whirlwind, Between demanding work schedules, personal commitments, and the constant buzz of technology, finding that elusive balance can feel like searching for a mythical creature. as part of my responsibility associated of my task being a member of working group, I believe that its time to embark on a journey together to unravel the secrets of work-life equilibrium. You should knowing that you have time for both your passions and your responsibilities. No more drowning in a sea of endless to-dos. So you have to : ° Prioritize what truly matters and Regularly review workloads. ° Set boundaries and stick to it with reconsider time off, Offer flexible and remote working.
-
The real essence of having colleagues at work is to complement and support one another in times like this and more. The first thing is to be empathetic with the person, make that person know that he/she isn't going through it alone he's got some support from you. Then practically work the person through some good counselling process on how to regain stability and balance. You could as well sight instances where you've been in their shoes and how you scaled through that period (if you've been in that situation). Regular check ups too would suffice to make the person feel loved and happier.
-
One thing I have found helpful is to take breaks. Take a 10-minute break in the morning and one in the afternoon after lunch. Also, do not eat your lunch at your desk. The weather is getting warmer find a spot outside to eat or a place other than your desk in the office.
-
Remind them of the importance of setting boundaries between work and personal life. Encourage them to prioritize self-care and make time for activities outside of work that bring them joy and relaxation.
-
I had a coworker who had issues saying "no" when her plate became too full! In addition to reminding her not to take on too much, I often reminded her not to work late and to take breaks. It's so important to give your brain the time it needs to breathe and reset, leaving you all the more ready to tackle even the most overloaded to-do list.
-

-
One thing I have found to be helpful is offering one day a week working from home, and scheduling the work hours flexibly on that day so that whatever the employee needs to make time for in their life gets some room. It doesn't matter if that is a doctors appointment or picking up the kids from school or anything else they might need or want to do. As long as that time is available to have some flexibility in the work schedule, employees get a chance to make room for things they find important.

Flexibility is the best option for that. You have to given task and ask them to complete and also guide for the same. If someone have any issues for that he/she has to do in the limitation and some task allotted for them which is light in burden. Even we have to not given all light task to that perticular person but distribution of work make best practices for a good leader. Support and Help them where they need.

Definitely offering staff the opportunity to work from home if difficult to come in the office, still allows them to get work done and gives them the opportunity to have a healthier work/personal life balance. I think a lot of people don't realize how much time some staff miss on with family due to long travelling hours and lack of sleep. All factors that can be resolved and encourage performance if part of someone's job.
-
Promoting flexibility in the workplace is something I've always valued, especially since I love working from my comfort zone. I've found that when employees have the freedom to choose their work environment, whether it's from home or in the office, they tend to be more productive. As a VA, I've seen firsthand how allowing for flexible working arrangements can lead to better work-life balance and overall job satisfaction!

Even if we are at workplace, where we are asked to be professional and well behaved, there will be a humane part to us, if someone isn’t feeling better at work, all as a colleague we can do is to provide some words of solace, to make them feel better throughout the day. Because we all have emotions; good, bad, and ugly, even in a professional environment where everyone puts up a pretense of being all business and nothing personal, when it becomes personal eventually down the line. We might want to change the future way of professionalism to realism, where we can realistically set boundaries for a fun, and safe workplace, than a toxic and polluted work environment, which sends people down the line to mental instability.

With properly planning and time management, you can enjoy ur life, and plan you leave at the planned time. Otherway, you will not be able to take ur leave.
-
In my experience I have always tried to organize myself and comply with a fixed work schedule. Try to never take my personal time to continue working. It's not healthy and it won't help you advance in your work life either. It can cause work fatigue and affect your performance.
-
1. Using holidays and vacations 2. Encourage remote work 3. Attention to humanity 4. Use appropriate technology 5. Improving skills and time management 6. Support efficiency at work 7. Empowerment

As a colleague, you can lead by example and model a healthy work-life balance yourself. Demonstrate the importance of setting boundaries between work and personal time, and prioritize self-care and relaxation outside of work hours. By showing that you value and prioritize your own well-being, you can inspire your colleagues to do the same and create a more balanced and supportive work culture.
-
Modeling balance involves leading by example and demonstrating healthy work-life balance practices. Set boundaries for work hours and personal time, and prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. Communicate openly about the importance of balance and encourage your team to do the same. Delegate tasks effectively and encourage flexible work arrangements when feasible. By prioritizing balance in your own life, you inspire others to do the same, fostering a positive and sustainable work culture.
Share any resources your workplace offers that can assist with work-life balance, such as employee assistance programs, wellness initiatives, or time management workshops. If your organization doesn't have these resources, consider suggesting them to management or researching external support systems that your colleagues might find beneficial.
-
Training other resources for the same work always helps, at least to the point where other resources can cover incase of emergency, this prevents any impact on business, helps team bonding, and employee has a sense of that their team or manager got their back when they are not there, and a manager can offer employees to take breaks from work as well.
-
Trust your team and give them freedom to work with flexibility. I have seen freshers turning into experts after few months of training and support. And off course that resulted in a good work life balance for everyone because when everyone knows everything life becomes easy.
-
1.Share information about employee assistance programs. 2.Promote wellness initiatives available at your workplace. 3.Recommend time management workshops or seminars. 4.Advocate for additional resources if needed. 5.Research external support systems for work-life balance.

1) Isolate the issue: Have a one on one conversation with the person. If this is a job that they have been doing for x amount of time and only now are they having trouble managing their time, then pinpoint what's going on internally/externally. 2) Delegate responsibilities: Who or what on the team can cover certain tasks that don't require their particular set of skills? 3) Set a clear time-line and determine expectations: How long will this person need to complete each task? Are their needs longterm or short-term? Be candid, yet understanding. Life is demanding enough, let alone, being faced with worry of judgement. Most often than not, they just need someone to listen. Be that person, together, you might be able to find a solution.

I have experienced life changing events that drained me mentally. I am big on searching for resources and other people who have experience to share. I would encourage my colleague to keep reaching out for help. Seek talk therapy or someone that you can trust with intimate details.
-
I witnessed my colleagues in the IT department accepting several projects from our manager, which resulted in them working all the time. They never cared for themselves or spending time with family, which led to a decrease in productivity and efficiency with the projects they aimed to complete. By constantly accepting new tasks, they simply thought they were displaying initiative. I advised them to ensure they prioritize their mental and physical health and take time for activities that brings them joy and balance out the stress of work. After they implemented this, their productivity at work increased, and they were happier in their personal lives, caring for themselves, spending time with family and pursuing their hobbies.
-
In all companies, a program should be implemented that contains talks on emotional health, yoga and relaxation therapies, that helps the employee clear their mind and do their work with more spirit.
-
Initiate conversations about work-life balance within your team or department. This can help to destigmatize the struggle and open up a dialogue about how the workplace can support its employees better. Encourage your colleagues to voice their concerns and ideas, and work together to find collective solutions that benefit everyone's well-being and job satisfaction.
-
Creating dialog about work-life balance is not just about how to build trust to the teamwork, but also rejuvinate burnout in facing diversity, challenges and life changes. We encourage each other. This is good to find resolutive ideas and keep the teamwork vibrant.
-
Just a simple conversation at the office which is not work-related is enough to relieve the stress of the day. Talk with your colleagues about sports, musoc and otjer similar activities
-
As a Team Leader it's vital to create an environment where my team feel they can share any concerns, or ask for help with their workload. I check in often to ensure everyone's workload is balanced & achievable for them at their level. It's so important to have people coming in to work every day not stressed about what's going on at work, people are much more productive when they have a manageable task list.
-
One thing I have learned so far from my experiences that creating a fear free environment at work place for all. All colleagues under you should feel that their boss is approachable for any matter concerning the office business or family affairs. This is the responsibility of the leader by creating trust and confidence among the team members that their leader will listen to them during any crisis and support them by all means. So you have to listen to your subordinates/ team members and give them correct advice (may be advance leave, relocation or medical/financial advice) when he is in trouble making a work-life balance.
-
Offer a listening ear and provide support to colleagues who may be struggling with work-life balance. Sometimes, a friendly conversation can make a big difference.
-
Another potential aspect of creating dialogue with a colleague struggling with work- life balance is using open communication to decrease anxiety regarding work responsibilities. I believe that initiating conversation when there is a noticeable change at work can show your colleague that their presence matters and can ease stress with work responsibilities. They may be more willing to reach out for help to find solutions to aid with their workload while they find balance. It fosters a sense of community and empathy, which has a powerful ripple effect strengthening employee retention. It’s nice to know that colleagues have your back when you need them.
-
In my time I've found that simply encouraging someone to open up if they're looking a bit stressed immediately takes some of the load off them and gives them the headspace to analyse the stress factor and find solutions. Of course, the friend or counsellor then assisting with prodding questions - gently though - is hugely beneficial as well. The dialogue opens up any other possible solution.
-

Resources is very useful part of users , but users need is most important with resources maching what are the information required is actual.

As an HR officer challenges come up everyday especially when it comes to matters of the heart concerning staff. I believe in giving a ear. Listening to them is very vital.even if you are fully assist or give what they seek at least a ear to them and a bit of suggestions in how to go about from work and life and most importantly i believe in checking on them after a couple of days or so it shows concern it helps them to know that they have support indirectly. My view and i have tried a few times already. It helped some too.

Unfortunately there is no "one size fits all" every family is different and every job is different. I think what can have a huge impact and be the reason staff either leave or stay in a role is down to the line manager and team around them. If they have a team and manager that is supportive and understanding it goes a long way.
-
If company cares about you such things didn't happened further more added work life must be balance a healthy life is important to meet up your end line projects and if extraw sitting must confirm it benefit you otherwise you ruining your life by not balancing.
-
Recommend them to keep doing what they love outside of work. For example spending time with those they love, getting out in nature or trying a new hobby. If that means not taking the work phone/laptop home then that’s a great achievement!

Supporting colleagues with work-life balance is key to a healthy team. Here's how: Talk openly: Check in with colleagues and listen actively without judgment. Offer help: Share tasks, prioritize workloads, and suggest time-saving tools. Encourage breaks: Remind colleagues to disconnect and recharge during the day. Lead by example: Practice good work-life balance yourself. Promote flexibility: Advocate for flexible work arrangements if possible. Celebrate balance: Recognize colleagues who prioritize well-being. Focus on control: Support colleagues but respect their boundaries. Direct to resources: Suggest professional help if needed (EAPs).
-
Encourage team bonding. Team bonding helps in building relationships with colleagues outside the office space. Here we can discuss issues not related to work, appreciate each other's contributions to individual successes and build a better perspective of our colleagues.
-
Another thing to consider is setting work-life boundaries. This helps in maintaining a healthy balance. Here are some strategies 1. Define your priorities: Determine what matters most to you in both your work and personal life. 2. Learn to say no: Don't take on more than you can handle and be comfortable declining tasks that don't align with your boundaries. 3. Create a designated workspace: Establish a physical separation between work and personal life, even if you work from home. 4. Disconnect from technology: Set specific times to unplug from work-related devices and focus on personal activities. 5. Prioritize self-care: Make time for activities that promote relaxation, such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones.
-
One thing, I found useful is recognising staff effort and their contribution at work. Lack of work life balance might be as a result of job insecurities.
-
An example would be giving them a life experience you went through and show how it relates to their struggle. Maybe they can use the insight to help them fix their current situation or problem.
-
In my years of work and observation, I believe that work-life balance is a personal matter. But a company can create a conducive environment by acting on data-driven solutions to provide a culture that promotes balance: 1. Yearly company paid executive physical and medical check-up results can be used to determine if employees are fit and healthy to meet the rigors of their duties and responsibilities. Company health insurance for hospitalization and treatment may come into the picture to ensure the health of employees. 2. Yearly survey on employee feedback about work, colleagues and the company provides ideas to improve facilities, e g. housing and transportation; and development programs such as trainings and promotions.
