One thing that I’ve learned is most of soft skills can be extrapolate between activities or projects, when applying for a internship recruiters can be more interested on the soft skills you have developed than your hard skills.

I'm responding to the query about interns interested in oil and gas but dont have the qualification right now.. Oil & Gas is a broad term. It ranges from top tier international and national operating companies to many large, mid and small size service companies. My suggestion to candidates interested to be in Oil & gas would be to get a start in the industry where the opportunity currently is, and then navigate your career through the industry. Once you are involved in the value chain somewhere, it becomes a lot easier to move up/sideways based on your interest.

Being a highly specific science, unless you get very lucky, it is, in my opinion, necessary to pursue a degree in the field. It really depends on what you want to do. Do you want to work in the mechanical aspect (i.e. the well structure, perforation), chemical aspect (Oil refining, Hydraulic fracturing, fluid mechanics and flow inside pores), geology (reservoir identification, seismology) or geo-mechanics (rock stress, compressibility and fractures)?

A mi me funciono ver videos, leer artículos y seguir en redes sociales todo lo relacionado con la industria del gas y el petróleo, porque de una u otra manera te sumerges en este mundo en el cual nunca dejas de aprender y crean o no lo que se aprende por más mínimo que sea en esta industria te va servir, para una pasantía es esencial pues te servirá para tener conocimientos teóricos ya que en la práctica podrás obsérvalos de manera directa ( ejemplo tipos de válvulas como son, para que sirven y qué tipo de utilizan dentro de la industria…etc.)

You’re in an internship to gain knowledge. Don’t be afraid to say you don’t know and learn from the folks you are interning for and actively seek their mentorship. Internships should be a two way street; with the intern bringing value and the employer coaching and mentoring the intern.

The best average does not imply being the best candidate. problem solving, process automation, analysis skills and last but not least a second language.

There is a well established hierarchy of knowledge management i.e. data, information, knowledge and wisdom. The best way will start your journey from different data sets, analyse them with the available literature to acquire knowledge and skills in petroleum engineering practices. Whatever you do, try to fit in the time series first before working on other aspects.

Considering joining Engineering focused organizations/competitions on campus to get experience such as engineering without borders or AiChe ChemE Car competition. These are great opportunities to get hands-on engineering skills and develop teamwork skills. Also considering volunteering/ shadowing in a professors lab. Another item is to seek out specific relevant certifications/courses like in process safety to add to your resume.

Un consejo que siempre les doy a mis amigos que aún siguen estudiando e incluso a mi propia hermana es que gane experiencia desde la universidad, que realice todo los cursos que pueda y que busque, toque puertas o válgase de conocidos para que pueda entrar en alguna empresa ha realizar pasantías porque esto al momento de salir a la vida laboral les va a servir no se imaginan cuanto muchas veces se conforman con pasantías dentro de la universidad que realmente no es que no sirvan pero no van a aprender lo que realmente necesitan, la industria del petróleo y gas cada vez es más competitiva y depende de cada uno ir formando nuestro camino

The experience gains by work in the field especially that related to drilling and well services. the best way to gain this experience is joining oil and gas services company or work close with them.
