Reflection is a crucial step in growing your decision-making prowess. After each significant decision, take time to analyze the outcomes and the process that led you there. Consider what worked well and what could be improved. This practice of self-assessment will sharpen your judgment and help you approach future decisions with greater assurance.

At the end of a project, it's important to have a close-out session to look at what happened, how things could have been done better, and what lessons you've learned. Equally important are regular meetings with key project staff to make those assessments as you go. Especially when projects are dynamic, you may need to devote extra time and resources to ensuring you are making decisions that reflect current conditions, rather than what was planned. Remember to budget for this reflection and management time when costing out a project.

Regular reflection is crucial for growth in decision-making. After important choices, take time to analyze the outcomes and the decision-making process. Identify areas of success and those requiring improvement. This self-assessment will refine your judgment and equip you to approach future decisions with greater certainty.
Understand that not every decision will yield the desired outcome, and that's okay. Embracing failure as a learning opportunity is essential for building resilience and confidence in your decision-making abilities. When a choice doesn't pan out as expected, dissect the experience to uncover valuable lessons that can inform your approach to future sustainability challenges.

Not all decisions will produce the desired results, 90%+ of all experiments fail the first time...and the second time...and the 17th time. View these instances as learning opportunities to build resilience and confidence. When a choice leads to unexpected outcomes, analyze the experience to extract valuable lessons that can inform your approach to future sustainability challenges. This growth mindset will strengthen your confidence in navigating uncertainties.

In the habitat restoration and monitoring space, everything is an experiment. Nature never acts quite like you expected and even the best laid plans may not work exactly as intended. Business is much the same way. Remember to plan for things to go awry on your projects. Set aside contingency budgets and work with your clients to help them understand the risks inherent in the work you're doing. While promising success with no hitches looks good on paper, it's better to be upfront and realistic. Especially when you've been in the industry for a while, you'll develop an idea of where potential challenge spots are. Communicate and watch out for these.
The field of sustainability is ever-evolving, and so should your decision-making strategies. Remain adaptable by keeping an open mind to new information and different viewpoints. This flexibility will allow you to pivot when necessary and approach decisions with a confidence that is both resilient and responsive to the changing landscape of sustainability.

I can only encourage doing in depth research on the area, sector, company / organisation for decision making. The term "sustainability" has turned into everything and nothing, is used, misused and misunderstood. ESG is not sustainability, and forerunners not necessarily call what they work on "sustainability". Reputable NPOs and listed companies are required to report with transparency and are exposed to watchdogs. If they self identify in public as - or aspire to become - sustainability leaders, they likely know what they are talking about.
