You and your team must be able to (i) identify what the real uncertainties associated with the problem/desired innovation are; and (ii) find a way to address these within the constraints of the problem and your organisation. To do this innovation teams (as opposed to development teams) are more effective with very diverse perspectives which might include different functional expertise, industry experience and even life experiences.
