I firmly believe that the best question to ask yourself as you consider retirement is "Do I Live to work or Do I work to live" Those that live to work seem to have a very difficult time without a professional identity, continue to work longer and struggle when their "career" identity no longer exists. Some people can strike the balance, but retirement can create imbalance.

As a teacher and healthcare provider I have always practiced lifelong learning. A favorite quote from one of my teachers - "When the apple gets ripe it begins to rot." I think of myself as an apple tree - always reading, learning and engaging in new experiences so that my tree can bear new fruit.
