Before starting a volunteer activity, it is important to make a previous evaluation of the time available, thinking mainly about the time dedicated to leisure, family, sleep, work and extra activities. It is important to size up the time and resources that will be consumed by the activity in order to adjust it within our usual schedule. It is also important to contemplate the days that the attendance will require as well as the possible attendance at unusual hours. And obviously the workload. If after having done this examination and already in the middle of the process or development of the activity we realize that we are leaving obligations that are a priority, we should talk to the PM about the possibility of optimizing time&resources.
Setting clear boundaries is key to preventing volunteer work from overwhelming your personal life. Decide on a set number of hours or days that you can commit each week and be firm about this limit. Communicate these boundaries to the organization you're volunteering with and stick to them. If you're asked to take on more, it's okay to say no. Remember, your well-being is important, and setting boundaries is a form of self-respect.

We know that there is a need to carry out this optimization of time and resources. From that moment on, it is important to set boundaries. Based on our rol in the volunteering it is necessary to determine the level of criticality that exists within the sub-processes of which the activity consists and see in which of them our presence and execution is necessary no matter what. For those sub-processes of lower priority, it is possible to negotiate with the PM the possibility that another member of the team can do them in a complementary way or contemplate the possibility of incorporating another person to cover them. It is very important to keep a balance between work-life balance and volunteering. Otherwise our performance will be affected.
When you're volunteering, it's vital to prioritize tasks to ensure you're using your time effectively. Focus on the activities that align with your skills and have the most impact. Don't be afraid to delegate or share responsibilities with other volunteers. This not only helps you manage your workload but also fosters a collaborative environment. Prioritizing tasks will help you stay focused on what's important and prevent you from getting overwhelmed.
If volunteer work is becoming too much, seek support from fellow volunteers or coordinators. They may offer solutions or adjustments to your workload that you hadn't considered. Additionally, talking with friends or family about your experiences can provide a fresh perspective and emotional support. You're not alone, and often, sharing your concerns can lead to finding a better balance.
Good time management is crucial in balancing volunteer work with personal life. Use tools like calendars or apps to schedule your commitments and ensure you have time for both volunteering and personal activities. Be proactive in planning your week, and don't forget to include downtime. Effective time management can help you feel more in control and reduce stress.

Schedules!!! Sometimes as a lead in the social and tech department, certain tasks may take longer than expected. However, with schedules, it will be easier to block out specified time for particular tasks. Even if you don't finish in time, you can allocate time to the next day's schedule. Removing volunteering altogether is not a good idea, as volunteering is actually beneficial to your overall health.
Regular reflection on your volunteering experience is important. Ask yourself if you're still passionate about the cause and if the work is fulfilling. If volunteering is causing more stress than satisfaction, it might be time to reassess your involvement. Reflecting on your motivations and feelings can guide you in making decisions that align with your personal goals and well-being.
