First of all, you need to know who you hired. Based on position - tasks will be different. So training will be different. I usually create a scope of tasks that specialist will do and train that specialist based on tasks. So for example we have a keyword research task. I explain everything on the call, provide all examples and on the same day assign one KW research so that person can practice. The first tasks will be not good, but later, after a few researches, the outcome will be better. And after every research, I usually have a call to explain how we can improve different stuff.

Based on the assessment, create a tailored training plan that addresses specific areas for improvement. Consider organizing workshops, webinars, or training sessions covering fundamental and advanced SEO topics. Utilize online resources, industry publications, and reputable SEO courses to supplement the training program.
-
Start with a comprehensive audit. Examine key areas such as on-page optimization, technical SEO, and link-building strategies. Identify which practices are yielding results and where there are gaps. For instance, if your website is ranking well for certain keywords but not converting, the issue might be content relevance or user experience. Look at your team's skill set – are they up to date with the latest SEO trends and algorithms? Analyze their understanding of analytics and their ability to derive actionable insights. By pinpointing specific strengths and weaknesses, you can tailor a training program that directly addresses these areas, leading to a more effective and skilled SEO team.
There are different ways to train your SEO team in-house, depending on your preferences, resources, and availability. You can opt for online courses, webinars, podcasts, blogs, ebooks, or other self-paced learning materials that cover various SEO topics and best practices. You can also hire a reputable SEO trainer or coach to deliver live sessions, workshops, or mentoring programs for your team. Alternatively, you can create your own training materials and curriculum based on your specific goals and challenges. Whatever format you choose, make sure it is engaging, interactive, and relevant for your team.
-
1. Conduct workshops where team members can apply SEO concepts to real-world scenarios. 2. Invite SEO experts for guest lectures. Their insights on current trends and advanced strategies can offer valuable knowledge. 3. Analyze case studies in group settings. This encourages a deeper understanding of SEO strategies in different contexts. 4. Rotate training responsibilities among team members. This not only helps in sharing diverse skills and knowledge but also boosts confidence and communication skills. 5. subscribe to online SEO courses. Ensure they offer up-to-date content 6. Schedule weekly meetings where team members can share insights. 7. Assign specific SEO projects or challenges. This allows team members to learn through doing.

At a large multi-national company, past learnings were recorded in a Confluence wiki, so that the same mistakes were not repeated. Such a wiki is also useful to train new staff members in various disciplines, such as SEO, developers, content, and so on.
-
The format should match your team's learning style and your company's operational flow. For example, a digital marketing agency might benefit from weekly hands-on workshops where real-time issues are discussed. Recently, many organizations have successfully used blended learning, combining online courses with live Q&A sessions, enabling teams to learn at their own pace while still having access to expert guidance.
SEO is a dynamic and complex field that requires both technical and creative skills. Therefore, you need to train your SEO team not only on the theoretical concepts and principles, but also on the practical skills and techniques that they can apply to your website and campaigns. For example, you can teach them how to conduct keyword research, optimize on-page and off-page factors, perform competitor analysis, use SEO tools and software, analyze data and reports, and implement SEO recommendations. You can also give them real-life scenarios, case studies, and exercises to test their understanding and problem-solving abilities.
-
I like to record myself doing daily operations on Loom or Zoom. Then, I share these videos with my team. I sometimes also share these videos with my buddies in the SEO space. I usually brace myself for the criticism or them poking fun of how I do operations sometimes, but it's all worth it.
-
To enhance practical skills, implement regular SEO drills that mimic real-world scenarios. These could range from optimizing a sample webpage to strategizing a mock SEO campaign. Such exercises provide a safe space for trial and error, crucial for skill development. Regularly updating these exercises to reflect current SEO trends ensures that your team's skills remain relevant and sharp. Encouraging peer review and feedback during these exercises can also foster a collaborative learning environment.

-
Practical exercises are crucial. For instance, you could assign your team to improve the SEO of a low-performing page on your website. This gives them hands-on experience and immediate feedback on their work. A recent trend is the use of simulation tools that mimic SEO scenarios, allowing teams to practice skills in a risk-free environment before applying them to live projects.
-
Prioritize practical skill development in your in-house SEO training. While theoretical knowledge is essential, practical application is crucial for mastery. Emphasize hands-on exercises, simulations, and real-life projects to reinforce learning. Create scenarios where team members can implement SEO strategies, conduct audits, optimize content, and analyze results. Encourage experimentation with various tools and techniques in a controlled environment. This hands-on approach allows for immediate feedback, learning from mistakes, and honing problem-solving abilities.
SEO is constantly evolving and changing, so you need to train your SEO team to keep up with the latest trends, updates, and innovations. You can encourage continuous learning by providing them with regular feedback, coaching, and support. You can also create a culture of curiosity and collaboration by encouraging them to ask questions, share ideas, learn from each other, and join online communities and forums. Moreover, you can reward their achievements and celebrate their successes by recognizing their efforts, giving them incentives, or offering them career advancement opportunities.
-
Nothing is better than trial and error. I often encourage people to have their test site, where they can test and break things. This is the best way of learning, in my opinion. Also, don't believe what everyone says. Apart from this, learning from an expert in the form of coaching can speed up your growth. They help you with your doubts, as well as hold you accountable. Lastly, don't be afraid of asking questions. The more questions you ask, the better you'll understand. Bonus: Join communities where you can discuss stuff with similar people. For example, women can join the Women In Tech SEO community.
-
I like to host meetings with the SEO professionals inside the company and people involved to discuss new updates, technologies and tools we use to keep everyone updated and motivated. Doing this with screen share and hands on advice tends to yield great results in terms of team engagement.
-
Be open to answer all the relevant questions. Create positive Environment so they can ask freely Instead of verbal lecture, Give them real scenarios so they can grab all aspects Create Trust in team that seniors have their back

SEO is an ever-evolving field. Encouraging participation in online SEO forums or communities can keep your team updated on the latest trends. To enhance your SEO team's effectiveness, focus on continuous learning. Keep them updated on the ever-changing SEO landscape through regular feedback, coaching, and support. Foster a culture of curiosity and collaboration by encouraging questions, idea sharing, and participation in online communities. Acknowledge achievements with incentives, recognition, or career advancements. According to a survey, 87% of successful SEO teams prioritize ongoing training, leading to a 30% increase in organic traffic. Embrace a proactive approach for sustained success in the dynamic world of SEO.
Finally, you need to evaluate the results of your SEO training program and measure its impact on your team and your business. You can use various metrics and indicators to assess the effectiveness of your training, such as SEO rankings, traffic, conversions, revenue, retention, satisfaction, and engagement. You can also collect feedback from your team members and ask them about their learning experience, challenges, and suggestions. Based on your findings, you can adjust and improve your training program accordingly and ensure that it meets your expectations and goals.
-
Set clear benchmarks for success and use them to measure the impact of training. A retail company I worked with used key performance indicators like organic traffic and keyword rankings to gauge the effectiveness of their training. They saw a 20% increase in organic traffic six months post-training, indicating a successful program.
-
Don't overlook the importance of fostering a culture that values SEO across all departments. For instance, training other departments about the basics of SEO can create a more SEO-friendly environment. Integrating SEO considerations into content creation, web design, and even social media can lead to a more cohesive and effective overall strategy. Additionally, consider bringing in external experts for specialized training sessions or webinars to provide fresh perspectives and advanced insights.
-

A great way to train your SEO team is by enrolling in Google's own free courses for advertising, etc. - It teaches you how to segment audiences and how to connect keywords and searcher intent with content that satisfies the users needs. If you want to get that to an extreme, apply for Google quality rater jobs and work in this job part time for at least a month. You'll learn how Google wants to have expert content and what factors they see as "low quality" on a web page/site.
