One of the first steps to identify your strengths is to use self-evaluation tools that can help you gain insight into your personality, work style, and motivations. There are various online assessments that you can take, such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the StrengthsFinder, or the DISC profile. These tools can help you understand your preferences, strengths, and weaknesses in different aspects of your work, such as communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and leadership. You can use the results of these assessments to identify areas where you excel and where you need improvement, as well as to align your work with your values and goals.

In my past experience where I had new supervisors, I would meet with them to identify their expectations in my role. We have (EARs) Employee Appraisal Reports twice per year, mid-year check-in and end year formal report, during this time we discuss goals, achievements and discover if any gaps or improvements are set a plan for success. I am lucky that I work with great organization and my "boss" is very approachable and invested in my growth.
-
Consider these lesser-known self-assessment tools for unique insights: 1. High5 Test: Focuses on your top five strengths for personal growth. 2. Via Character Strengths: Identifies core character traits based on positive psychology. 3. The Enneagram: Offers deep insights into personality, emotions, and motivations. 4. The Birkman Method: Provides a comprehensive look at personality and social perceptions. 5. MAPP Assessment: Geared towards career planning, it highlights motivations and job suitability. 6. Sokanu Career Test: A career-focused tool that also sheds light on work preferences. Exploring these can help in understanding your strengths and career potential. Good luck 🍀

Identifying strengths involves a mix of self-reflection and feedback. Personally I've found that paying close attention to tasks that I excel at and enjoy is a good starting point. Example: if I'm consistently praised for my organizational skills or my ability to manage complex schedules without a hitch, I take that as a strong indicator of a key strength. Additionally, seeking feedback from the executives I support and colleagues has been invaluable. They provide insights into areas where my contributions stand out, such as problem-solving abilities or communication skills. Reflecting on moments when I've successfully navigated challenging situations or received commendations for my work also helps in pinpointing my strengths.

Identifying strengths begins with self-evaluation tools, providing insights into personality and work style. For example, assessments like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), StrengthsFinder, or DISC profile reveal preferences, strengths, and weaknesses in areas like communication or leadership. Analyzing results helps pinpoint strengths and areas for improvement, aligning work with values and goals. This self-awareness enhances performance and personal development.
-
Self evaluation is one major way of discovering your strengths and what areas you can function better as a person. You can assess yourself by keeping tabs of what you can do and what you cannot to, and ask yourself genuine questions, also be honest with your answers, this will help you discover your strengths and help you understand better, your weaknesses.
Another way to identify your strengths is to seek feedback from others who work with you or know you well. You can ask your executive, colleagues, clients, or mentors for constructive and honest feedback on your performance, skills, and behavior. You can also use formal methods, such as performance reviews, 360-degree feedback, or peer reviews, to gather objective and comprehensive feedback. Feedback from others can help you validate your self-evaluation, discover hidden strengths, and address blind spots. You can use the feedback to highlight your achievements, demonstrate your impact, and develop a plan for improvement.

Identify strengths by seeking feedback from colleagues, clients, or mentors. For instance, request constructive input on performance and skills. Formal methods like performance reviews or 360-degree feedback provide comprehensive insights. This external feedback validates self-evaluation, uncovers hidden strengths, and addresses blind spots. Use this input to emphasize achievements, showcase impact, and formulate improvement plans, contributing to personal and professional growth.

I think feedback good or bad is very important, it helps you to quickly get in tune with your exec and work together more effectively. It’s always helpful to understand where you might have done something well or where you could do something a little differently to improve your quality of work or a process. At the same time it helps you to learn new methods and adapt to different working styles along the way. Every C-Suite individual I have worked with has a very different style and how we have worked together so any feedback good or bad is welcome. What may be suitable to one individual may not be for another.
-
I set my goals and realize my strengths from the feedback I get from my coworkers and supervisors. An example would be, one supervisor always requests I sit in on the District Meetings to take the minutes. I realized the pattern and that gives me confidence and acknowledgment that I am doing something correct.
-
In my experience, having regular meetings on feedback is a great opportunity to get different perspectives. You only grow by learning things you didn’t know before.
-
Feedback is the fastest ways to focus our efforts, correct our course, and achieve our goals. None of us are perfect, and we all have blind spots. It helps to reinforce positive habits and encourages more of the performance that you want to see. Feedback builds self-awareness and helps us become mindful of the impact that our actions have, concentrate on the behaviour, not the person, state the behaviour in question, then describe how you feel about it, and ending with what you want, balance the content, specific, realistic, timely and offer continuing support. It provides positive criticism and allows to see what everyone can change to improve their focus and results. It brings people together and creates a healthy communication flow.
A third way to identify your strengths is to create a portfolio of work that showcases your accomplishments, projects, and contributions in your executive support role. You can include samples of your work, such as reports, presentations, emails, or documents, that demonstrate your skills, knowledge, and creativity. You can also include testimonials, awards, or recognition that you have received for your work. A portfolio of work can help you track your progress, measure your results, and showcase your capabilities. You can use the portfolio to update your resume, prepare for interviews, or negotiate for promotions.

I’m new to branding myself when it comes to the résumé of my life. I have accomplished so many things on so many levels that I forget to add all of those little things into my résumé that make up me and showcase how much of an asset, I am to any organization that I work with. Going forward I’m definitely going to try to incorporate more diversity and more direction in my portfolio opposed to sticking to just the résumé.

In other words it is a self assessment of your strengths and weaknesses. An important aspect in this regard is the review of the relationship between you and your colleagues. Constant interactions with the team members help to have a better understanding of communication among them.

A fifth way to identify your strengths is to reflect on your work experiences and actions regularly. You can use a journal, a log, or a tracker to record your achievements, challenges, learnings, and feedback. You can also use a SWOT analysis, a SMART goal setting, or a personal development plan to analyze your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals. -
What I do is to think way ahead of time. Try to see beyond the planning and prepare myself for the possibility of obstacles and how to overcome those hurdles. Communication is the artery of planning. Ask questions, don’t be afraid to ask them. It is better to ask twice than to think that you have it all while actually you’re not. The success of an event or planning depends on how you communicate. In my experience in doubt ask again. Even when you know for sure that it all planned and you have a confirmation. Maybe I’m a control freak, but you better be prepared. Just in case. Check and re-check. Be sure!

It is also called a self appraisal of your achievements. This activity will boost your confidence and make you more enthusiastic in executing your tasks

Assign the task to the team members who you trust and have confidence. Provide all the help and support to them and make them feel you are with them. If possible join with the team members to do the ground work along with them. You will see that the work is done successfully.
