You might fulfill all the requirements mentioned in this article and still not get the promotion. I won't ever used the term "secure a promotion", because ultimately a promotion doesn't fully depend on oneself, but on the circumstances: market, interpersonal, company circumstances that might interfere with your desired promotion. My recommendation is: promoting should not be a focus. Becoming a better professional and game designer, and crafting better game experiences should be. If you decide to mentor others or "encourage innovation" it should be because you feel your team and project will improve. Never because you are thinking of a promotion. Create good games. Eventually, at the right moment, the promotion will appear.
