Number one - put the deadline in your calendar. In ink if you must! Then do the "backward math" as I call it: Block out time every week or every day to work towards that deadline, and keep your word: Say no to meetings, decline social events, etc. That blocked-out time is for work on this specific goal only!

Be realistic about the amount of time you are setting aside toward your tasks. One thing as a life coach is we learn from our own experiences, eventually. One thing I found was being unrealistic about how long a particular task would take. To help combat this I started notice when my mind started to drift, or when excitement started to turn into frustration. The 30-45 min mark is a good timer for me. I set a timer for 30 or 45 mins and work on the tasks and then take a break. Not a long break, but a break good enough for me to recharge, like reading a chapter of a book to avoid looking at the computer screen. Maybe some stretching to keep myself active. Being realistic with yourself and what you can tolerate is important.

This will help avoiding getting discouraged. Always look at your adjustments as you improving your skills and techniques and as a learning process as best you can. Accountability is crucial for reaching goals and deadlines; if having another person (like a coach) hold you accountable works, great! However, I always ask my clients: How will you be accountable to yourself when I am no longer your coach....? Be curious about how you can be responsible without having another person to answer to. This isn't to say you should never share your goals or progress with others (we are social creatures after all) but, just something to be curious about!
