Fostering collaboration in sustainability is an essential part of work. One can do it in the following ways: 1. Have a virtual team set up and in person collaborative team set ups and ace it with collaborative technology tools so that people can work together even if they are not in the same location 2. Have occasional ice-breaking sessions and team-building exercises to keep the motivation in place and encourage co-design approach 3. Enable resources to make sure team members are given the right help to upskill and maneuver through impediments. 4. Give enabling feedback to the members and help them adopt a strategic collaborative approach.

Cross-pollination of ideas is essential in nurturing innovation in sustainability. By engaging with people from different industries and backgrounds, you expose yourself to new ways of thinking and problem-solving. This interaction can spark creative solutions that might not have been obvious in a single-discipline environment. It's like a brainstorming session on steroids, where each participant's input can lead to a cascade of sustainable innovations.

We live in a world that thrives on the basis of its Intersectionality. Cross-pollinating ideas fosters the growth of a holistic and exponentially growing symbiotic ecosystem - among the human race as well as between species and biomes. Communication, or the exchange of ideas, verbal or non-verbal, is the root of all the innovation and growth we see today. The unthinkable becomes possible, solely because of the existence of communication and learning. As sentient beings with extremely powerful minds, humans are more likely to survive with each other as opposed to against each other.

It's important to have a group of people with a variety of different backgrounds, so that no unintended consequences occur. If you only have one type of person solving the climate crisis, they will only see it from one perspective, which means they might be solving the problem for themselves, but in turn might actually be making it worse for others. This is why we need diversity and cross-pollination everywhere and especially in governments and organisations such as the UN. When you solve the climate crisis from one perspective only, you're not solving anything at all.

You all know the adage about measuring and managing, but did you know there’s more to it? What gets measured gets managed, what gets rewarded gets repeated. Introducing Sustainability is a change process, and change isn’t something many humans are comfortable with. As such, measuring and rewarding is essential for forming habit. However, it must be remember that sustainability is more of an art than a science, so the measure-reward loop needs to encourage learning through transparency even if that is exposing failure. Failures are even more important to measure and communicate, so we can all learn from what doesn’t work as well as what works

Collaboration starts within the ‘four walls’ of your own organisation. I was on a panel discussion only a few days ago where a common theme as the ‘silos’ within organisations and the fact that ‘sustainability’ (itself a broad church) needs to be everyone’s responsibility, just as (say) health and safety. The topics in here (this thread) such as education are just as relevant to get ideas from across the business. This will also aid collaboration outside your ‘four walls’ with more connections into suppliers, partners, customers etc.
