One of the benefits of working remote is that people have more time for deep work. When we send them back to back zoom meetings, we rob them of the opportunity to produce high-quality output. Leading does not mean you have to be there all the time. It also means that you delegate effectively, trust and develop your team. A big part of developing a team is to give them enough time to actually grow.

This reduces teams anxiety to find 1:1 slots on your calendar 2) empower team to own and drive decisions while establishing a ‘trust but verify’ mechanisms like bi-weekly check-ins with clear agendas and decision framework - Monthly Business Reviews or Weekly Business Reviews are good options to consider 3) have a clear forward looking plan on when face to face catchups will happen for at-least for a coming quarter or two.

Utilising Google Calendar for scheduling & Toggl for time tracking helped me stay organised and prioritise tasks efficiently. This structure ensured I could manage my responsibilities while remaining available for my team, leading to improved productivity & reduced stress. Set clear, measurable goals & define key performance indicators (KPIs) to track team progress and performance. Regularly review and adjust goals based on project developments and feedback to stay aligned with organisational objectives.

Remember that remote team members are just like in-person team members. They're still human. A lot of people think working remotely means there's a difference in culture. I find that to be untrue. What's different about remote work is that you have to work harder at implementing the culture. For example, you don't get the 'water cooler' talk you would in person. But, you can make time to meet with each of your team one-on-one monthly (or more frequently if you like) to get to know each other with some non-work talk. In fact, I recommend all remote managers encourage their teams to do this with each other to build relationships. In the virtual environment, you can and should still build trust among your team.
