NLTK is ancient old school technology now, but it still worth learning along your journey into modern AI and NLP. Now with LM Studio, GPT4All, and Ollama local LLM model servers, and 100s of LLM models from HuggingFace, large NLP jobs can be done locally without cloud computing. We are running sentiment analyses, large text collection Q&A, semantic search, and agent-based deep search with offline LLM models. For a programmatic approach I would say the NLTK Python package, SpaCy and GenSim are powerful NLP packages commonly used in the Python community. I’m sure most of the offerings on AWS, Google and Azure are most likely built on top of packages like these. Another important part in text analysis or text prediction are Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), different convolutional neural networks for image processing, RNNs are great for temporal and sequential processes such as NLP where prior inputs influence current and future outputs. For this we can use PyTorch’s RNN class or Keras’ (on top of TensorFlow) simpleRNN class.

Most companies would not prefer that the data leave their networks. 2.) Implementation and Operational costs: NLP models can get very expensive to run. Always think about the costs involved v/s the benefits of each system. 3.) Specialization: Major cloud providers have general implementations, sometimes a specialized solution may be needed. 4.)
