Begin by taking a step back to objectively assess your current situation. How many hours are you working each week? Are your work demands encroaching on your personal life? Recognize the signs of burnout, such as exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced professional efficacy. Acknowledging that there's an issue is the first step toward addressing it. Once you've identified the problem areas, you can start to make informed decisions about what needs to change to restore balance.

If your work-life balance is slipping and burnout is looming, take proactive steps to prioritize self-care and restore balance. Set boundaries by defining dedicated work hours and personal time. Delegate tasks or seek support from colleagues to lighten your workload. Schedule regular breaks and prioritize activities that rejuvenate you outside of work. Communicate openly with your employer about workload concerns and explore flexible work arrangements if possible. Remember that taking care of your well-being is essential for sustained productivity and overall happiness. Make self-care a priority to prevent burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

I don’t wait till calling it burnout, and I am trying to assess my feelings, speak out my thoughts. Searching the actually best practice which works for my calmness. Trying to pray, excercise, have a rest - these three in some combination are my main package.

Act promptly to mitigate stress and restore equilibrium. Reassess your priorities, determine what tasks are essential or can be deferred. Communicating openly with your employer about workload can also lead to manageable expectations. Next, enforce boundaries between work and personal time. This means turning off work notifications after hours or setting a strict time to end your workday. Regular breaks throughout the day, time for exercise or relaxation, are vital for mental and physical health. Consider adopting productivity techniques like time blocking or the Pomodoro Technique to enhance focus and efficiency during work hours. Ensure that your off-work hours are truly rejuvenating. Engage in activities that bring joy and relaxation.

O primeiro passo é aumentar seu autoconhecimento, porque o fantasma do "depois eu vejo" ou "vou mais um pouco e depois paro" ou ainda "esse é um projeto importante" são ameaças invisíveis mas bem perceptiveis nos profissionais.

Recently Sam Altman stated that burnout comes not from working too much, but from experiencing a lot of failure in what you're working on. Think of it like this: If you're working 50-60 hours a week and seeing success in what you're doing, you can see that you're being rewarded for your time. If you're working just as much but everything you're working on is failing in some way or another, you'll begin experiencing self-doubt. 1. Maybe you can't solve the problem. 2. Maybe you're not good enough. 3. Maybe you should give up. These thoughts negatively impact your life. Come up with an action plan to solve these issues. In addition, I agree with everything Noa Ries stated. These are excellent techniques to mitigate stress.

One of the most insightful things that I learned about burnout is that it interferes with your ability to access how much you need to change your mindset and behaviors. You can assume you are underestimating your need to make significante changes now. You may make poor bargains with yourself like: "just a little longer", hanging on till the end as if it were a marathon, but the finish line isn't coming. It can really be hard for someone to admit that they have gotten to the point where working hard and smarter is not got to take care of an imbalance in work and self-care.
Setting clear boundaries is crucial in preventing work from spilling into your personal life. Determine what your non-negotiables are, such as not checking emails after a certain hour or dedicating weekends solely to family and relaxation. It's important to communicate these boundaries to your colleagues and superiors to ensure they are respected. Remember, it's not just about creating these limits but also about having the discipline to stick to them.

-
Setting boundaries is important. What's even more important is following through with what you've set out to accomplish. If you set boundaries and then break them yourself you'll be no better off. Take 'not checking emails after a certain hour' for example. You can further build upon this by batching all of your emails at a specific time. Instead of looking at your email and responding multiple times a day within a short period, simply batch them all for 3:00 after your mid-afternoon break. You can take this one step forward to help others by scheduling emails later in the day to be delivered the next morning at 8:00 or 9:00 AM.
-
For those in a leadership position, this is a golden opportunity to be a good example. For example, by not sending out e-mails after hours. Or scheduling meetings with hard stops and preparing well ahead of time. Knowing that you are setting a positive example for others can help to motivate you to have the discipline to change your behavior. And remember to set boundaries on your thinking! Know how to tell yourself "enough" when over-ruminating or to interrupt bad states instead of letting them run amok.
Understanding how to prioritize your tasks effectively can significantly reduce stress and improve your work-life balance. Start by distinguishing between urgent and important tasks. Not everything that seems urgent is truly important. Learn to say no or delegate tasks that do not align with your core responsibilities or personal goals. This will help you focus on what truly matters and prevent you from being overwhelmed by less critical tasks.
-
Exercise more and first. With that you can dramatically improve your sleep and this is the magic pill for 'i need more energy'.
-
To regain balance and prevent burnout, prioritize self-care. Set boundaries by scheduling dedicated time for work and relaxation. Delegate tasks when possible, and learn to say no to additional responsibilities. Practice mindfulness or meditation to reduce stress. Engage in hobbies and activities that bring joy. Regular exercise and sufficient sleep are crucial for physical and mental well-being. Seek support from friends, family, or a therapist if needed. Remember, maintaining balance requires ongoing effort, so be patient and kind to yourself throughout the process.
-
Something important to note here is the importance of "delegating tasks that do not align with your responsibilities." Many leaders feel that they can't delegate tasks because the work will not be up to their standard. The best way I can explain this is how some creative Founders typically view social media, content creation, and marketing. Instead of giving the keys to their new hire, who was hired to do these tasks, they want to see all of their work before pushing it out to the world. Additionally, they want to play a hand in it. As a Founder, you have more important tasks to tend to. Let go of these tasks and allow your employees to do their job. Provide advice and tips as needed to help them improve, but allow them to do their job.
-
Embracing flexibility in your work schedule can provide the breathing room needed to manage personal commitments alongside professional ones. If possible, negotiate with your employer for flexible working hours or the option to work from home on certain days. This flexibility can reduce stress by allowing you to accommodate personal needs, such as attending a child's event or simply taking a midday break for exercise or relaxation.
-
We all have different productivity and motivation triggers. Finding out what are yours can help you choose how and when to be flexible.
Self-care should be a non-negotiable part of your routine. It's not selfish; it's essential for maintaining mental and physical health. This might include regular exercise, adequate sleep, healthy eating, and hobbies that you enjoy. Self-care activities help recharge your batteries and can improve your productivity and focus when you are working. Ignoring self-care can accelerate burnout, so make it a priority.

Remember that: a) Rest is productive b) There is more than one type of rest a) Investing in self-care pays off more than trying to accomplish something while being exhausted. You can be stuck in a situation and not be able to solve it simply because you are in too deep and are not able to grasp the whole picture. Test the idea, take some time for yourself and see if refreshment brings you more success than (blindly) sticking to the idea of "I must do it now". b) Resting does not only mean laying around and doing nothing. Depending on your needs, different type of rest could help you feel better. Sometimes that's sensory, emotional, spiritual or any other kind of rest. Research them and find one that suits you the most at this moment.
-
Self-care is also not selfish, because a calmer more aligned person (teammate of leader) has a stronger, more calming presence for others. They can care better and be more cooperative because they are not in stress/urgency/emergency/threat mode.
Lastly, don't hesitate to seek support when you're struggling with work-life balance issues. Whether it's from a professional coach, mentor, or a supportive network of friends and family, having someone to talk to can provide new perspectives and coping strategies. A leadership development coach can be particularly beneficial in providing tailored guidance to help you navigate the complexities of balancing professional ambitions with personal well-being.
-
Coaches exist to help you solve problems quickly. If you realize that you may need help in making a change, seek out a coach who aligns with your experience and personality. Most executive coaches can coach well and provide effective solutions. A great coach is someone that you can sit down and get along with. If your personalities don't mesh together, you'll find it difficult to work with them. Additionally, only seek out a coach if you're committed to making a change. People who are interested in making a change likely will not see results as they tend to give up quickly.
-
When life is out of kilter, thinking becomes so too. A skilled coach can take you beyond the mindset that had a role in getting to the point you go to. And with wise orientation, you can find your own steps and sequence to get back on track.

If I feel like my WLB is in danger, I would apply self-coaching, to understand what impacts it, what my priorities are, what is really important to me, and how long I am ready to tolerate this if it is important to continue, how I can support myself on the way. It is my responsibility to maintain WLB, and be ready to cancel something if I want to add something new. For those who don’t have such a habit, the best way is to apply to a coach, who can support taking ownership of one’s WLB.

If you’re working long hours, you should speak up about your condition with your manager. Almost everyone accommodates this request. The last thing people want is burnout that leads to a productive downfall. Your manager can help you by extending the project or adding more people to it.
