I usually say that if you have reached the point of stress being chronic and you are having health symptoms, then eliminating a couple of triggers will not be enough. You might be able to reduce your stress but chronic levels of stress are usually connected to personal patterns that can run deep. So, yes, identify your triggers but also do the work inside to understand why you are exposing yourself to repeated stress.

I like to become more present to notice what sparks stress reactions impacting health. When feeling unwell, try to redirect attention to bodily sensations, emotions or thoughts by focusing with awareness and presence. This very simple, yet applicable and powerful practice can help to become more aware of trigger-situations as they arise, like during a meeting, and can induce a relaxation response at the same time.

I like to look at this as levels of emotional fitness. If we think in terms of martial arts, white belt to black belt. The white belt does not notice the signs and symptoms until they hit the point of no return, such as a panic attack or real breakdown. The blackbelt would in theory be able to notice a 1% change in their heart rate. We may never get to full black belt status, but understanding the symptoms and our sensitivity to them allow us to catch these issues quickly. We can look at; Behavior response Physical response Thought Responses These would be the best places to start.

the entrepreneurial journey is often underestimated in terms of stress and pressure! So, understanding what specifically sets off stress is crucial. This proactive approach empowers entrepreneurs to regain control over their mental landscape, managing reactive stress into a strategic advantage.
Incorporating healthy habits into your daily routine can significantly reduce stress levels. Regular physical activity is a proven stress reliever, so aim to integrate some form of exercise into your day, even if it's just a brisk walk. Prioritizing sleep is also crucial for stress management; ensure you're getting enough restful sleep each night. Additionally, consider your diet – eating nutritious foods can provide the energy you need to tackle stressful situations. Remember, taking care of your body is taking care of your business.

Integrating healthy habits is foundational not just for stress management but also for enhancing overall productivity and creativity, especially for entrepreneurs. Exercise, sleep, and nutrition are not just physical health pillars; they significantly impact cognitive functionality and mental and emotional resilience. Self care is imperative - a non negotiable. Be a leader and lead yourself first by doing your self care daily instead of working longer hours and being a complete slave to your business. You won't do your business or personal life any favours if you let your self care be the negotiable element each day.

While exercise, nutrition, and sleep are crucial for general well-being, I believe that building resilience is paramount for effectively coping with stress. To strengthen this resilience muscle, it's essential to prioritize mindset and mindfulness practices, such as focused breathing, which can be seamlessly applied even in high-stress work environments. Additionally, utilizing awareness practices to identify triggers serves as both a relaxation and resilience-building exercise. Consider incorporating scientifically proven techniques like Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or Tapping) for stress relief in a more private setting.

Habits are the scaffolding for your personal and professional success. They create the support or conditions of life to help you achieve your goals healthily. 43% of what you do daily is habitual, you don't think you just act. Using the power of your habits when it comes to health can give you a powerful advantage when it comes to managing challenging situations and times. My #1 habit to to always create a hydration practice. Hydration and sleep are your two most important habits and they are connected. A properly hydrated body and brain have more energy and focus and also fall into deep restorative rest more easily. A well-rested body and brain crave proper hydration and healthier food choices. Start with these 2 habits!
Mindfulness techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, and yoga can be powerful tools in combating chronic stress. These practices help you stay present and can prevent you from becoming overwhelmed by future worries or past regrets. By setting aside time each day to focus on mindfulness, even just a few minutes, you can develop a more resilient mindset. This practice can improve your focus, reduce anxiety, and enhance your overall sense of well-being.

I appreciate the inclusion of various mindfulness practices like yoga, breathing exercises, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), awareness exercises, and meditation. It's essential to find what resonates best with your schedule and preferences. I strongly recommend cultivating mindfulness as a daily habit, not just during stressful moments. Incorporating mindfulness into everyday activities like bathroom breaks or commuting helps to foster presence and awareness. Engage your senses by focusing on touch, such as feeling the steering wheel while driving or the sensation of water and soap while washing your hands. These practices can help to switch from the chronic stress response into the relaxation response.

Mindfulness practice os my go to stress relieving habit. Mindfulness practice is invaluable for entrepreneurs, offering stress reduction, enhanced focus, and resilience. By fostering awareness and acceptance, it improves decision-making, boosts creativity, and strengthens relationships, equipping entrepreneurs to thrive amidst the demands of business.
Don't underestimate the power of a strong support network. Isolation can exacerbate stress, so it's important to maintain relationships with friends, family, and peers. These connections provide emotional support and can offer different perspectives on the challenges you face. Networking with other entrepreneurs can also provide valuable insights and strategies for stress management specific to your experiences. Remember, seeking support is not a sign of weakness but a strategic move for your well-being.
If chronic stress becomes overwhelming, consider seeking professional help. A therapist or counselor specializing in stress management can provide personalized strategies to cope with the pressures of entrepreneurship. They can help you develop a tailored plan to manage stressors and may suggest cognitive-behavioral techniques to change negative thought patterns. Investing in professional guidance is an investment in your health, which in turn benefits your business.

Professional support is invaluable for managing chronic stress. In addition to therapists and counselors, Health and Life Coaches offer effective strategies. They provide accountability and access to science-backed tools for resilience-building and stress reduction. Coaches can also help to improve time-management, organizational skills, boundary-setting, and delegation, empowering entrepreneurs to reduce stressful situations with confidence and effectiveness.
Effective time management is essential for reducing stress. As an entrepreneur, you might feel like there are never enough hours in the day, but by prioritizing tasks and setting realistic goals, you can regain control over your schedule. Learn to say no to non-essential tasks and use tools like planners or digital calendars to keep track of deadlines and commitments. Balancing work with leisure time is also important; ensure you schedule breaks and downtime to recharge.

Address stress through physiology, as opposed to just through psychology. This is especially effective for those who have trouble "buying in" to the thought-based strategies for calming the mind. First, consider a slow breathing practice (different from mindfulness). Mindfulness is a wonderful tool, but it sometimes doesn't work for those who need it most. Breathing at a rate of 4.5-6.5 breaths per minute is linked to increased heart rate variability, an indicator of nervous system resilience, regardless of attention span (though it usually helps with that as well). Second, prioritize nutrients that that play a key role in dealing with stress: namely B vitamins, essential minerals, and vitamin D. Not comprehensive, but highly impactful.

When chronic stress starts affecting your health, it's a serious warning sign. Your body is literally screaming at you to get your attention. This is not the time for merely identifying triggers, changing habits, practicing mindfulness, or improving time management. Immediate action is necessary. It's a clear indication that you're on the wrong path. If you're not ready for professional advice, there's one immediate powerful solution for stress: Autogenic Relaxation. It works effectively on multiple levels, making it ideal for highly stressed individuals. The only downside is that it's less effective when learned solely from a book. It is most effective when practiced 3x daily for deep relaxation, sharper focus & increased effectiveness.
