I was working for the City of San Francisco when the pandemic hit and we all worked from home as we sheltered in place. Prior to that we were primarily an in-person team. Fortunately, I started to transition the team to use MS Teams a few weeks before. Key to keeping everyone on board was paying close attention to keeping everyone engaged in each training. We sprinkled trivia, polls and word clouds into our meetings to build a culture of communication, collaboration, and trust. We set up and reinforced meeting guidelines with strict limits in length and the requirement that all meetings include an agenda so folks could decide if those meetings would be a good use of time before deciding to join. Sounds straightforward but it worked.
