I have been database administrator for both small companies, & for departments within bigger companies. Because you are "computer savvy", people within your orbit will ask you for general IT help as well, like a monitor that is being funky, as well as of course, help with the application for which the database is the back end. I have found being helpful and compassionate with end users, and other entry level/junior-type employees is better than trying to kiss up to the supervisors.
