One things I found helpful is understanding project critical path and task or work breakdown structure (WBS) associated with it. These are WBS that should be categorized as your highest priority therefore, resources (competent people, tools, and budget) need to be assigned appropriately to ensure timely completion and quality of execution and result.

While planning project one can divide one large project into several small parts and allocate these parts in Eisenhower matrix(for prioritization). The most important tasks which carries dependencies for further tasks should be early in timeline. While making 'Work break down structures' in project completion timeline, for the tasks and subtasks, we can add additional buffer for these spontaneous work packages. MS-Excel can be used as one stop powerful tool to create an interactive dashboard for allocating WBS, calculating time frames, activity percentage completion and budgetary resources till entire project is executed.

Plan for Failure and Contingency: "Risk management" is a very important word for building. Product leader needs to upfront consider scenarios where product launch can fail. Assess risks to success. This scenarios then will lead into some sort of risk mitigation plan that needs tobe put in place. Good product or project leaders often prepare workaround for areas where they see risk. For example - if some part of project is likely to run into design issues - you may consider manual alternative to push the features in next release. This mental model is crucial to project realistic plan that has some chance of success.

I'm not in 100% agreement with this. It's a spectrum. While many teams should probably do more planning than they currently do, it's important to be able to adapt to changes and new information. This is one of the things that the agile movement has taught us.

"Si no entiende lo que le pides, como va a hacer lo que necesitas"....esta frase parece una tonteria, pero es una realidad. Cada persona es un mundo, y percibe y entiende el mundo de una forma. Puedes dar explicación general del plan al grupo, para mantenerlos informados, pero necesitas un jefe de grupo que hable el mismo idioma que tú, para que el plan se ejecute correctamente. De lo contrario, siempre tendrás a alguien que "no lo entendió bien". Los canales abiertos de comunicación son una necesidad para mantener a las personas involucradas. Creo que, sobretodo con las nuevas generaciones, va quedando claro que el famoso "yo ordeno y mando".....quedó en extinción y arrastra a la extinción a las empresas que lo siguen utilizando.

Delegating is not I easy task and in my experience is not only a trust thing, in my case usually there is a lack of delegation due to time to stop and explain something because the priorities change all the time and deliveries require a fast development. Breaking down the project into bite-sized stories or tasks will really help with this. My ideal for a task used to be less than a week, but I'm beginning to believe a week is too long. A good task/story size is probably closer to 1-2 days.

Es imposible controlar un proyecto sin supervisarlo. Cualquier proyecto necesita de visitas periódicas, y de informes habituales de su estado, por parte del jefe de grupo. Si existen modificaciones, problemas, etc, como te enteras si no estás? Todo eso después repercute en retrasos, malas terminaciones, y problemas con el personal por exigencias de plazos. No es mas fácil mantenerse actualizado del estado del proyecto para facilitar asi el tiempo de reacción ante cualquier contingencia, y evitar cualquier posible retraso?

In innovation developments pivoting is a common routine and without metrics and monitoring is impossible to know if the way you are going is the one you should go, even with a certain level of uncertainty. Try to find the better methods and tools that fit in your scenario and go on, but never ever ignore the metrics and progress monitoring, I already saw a whole team and department finish because of this lack.

In covering projects of all sizes, there's 3 items I ensure is covered/ addressed sufficiently. While simple, it's been highly effective in complex settings 1) timeline - when's the deadline? This allows for quick reference to verify whether things are on track 2) Person in charge - who's the accountable person? It's good to always have 1 accountable person identified from the start for every workstream/module/package 3) Risk status - integrate reporting for all stakeholders to flag up any risk ASAP, and ensure anything flagged up is assessed and addressed immediately

Todos los pasos mencionados en conjunto deberían llevar a la culminación exitosa del proyecto, sin embargo, para mi lo primero es lograr una adecuada planeación, identificando la mayoría de los riesgos potenciales y de tal manera lograr una adecuada priorización y desglose de tareas teniendo en cuenta priorizar todas aquellas de ruta crítica. También muy importante establecer plazos realistas, definir los hitos que nos ayuden a identificar posibles retrasos y realizar un seguimiento de manera regular que permita, cambiar la estrategia o ajustar el plan si es necesario ante cualquier desviación.
