One thing that personally helps me with interactions involving my direct leadership is what I call 'Show & Ask'. Example: I've seldom become overwhelmed at work attempting to take on multiple tasks at once in attempts to help out my team. In order to prevent delays, I'd lay out (or Show) my supervisor what projects I was currently working on then Ask them to organize them in order of importance. This alone would lighten my mental load and allow me to move forward successfully.

In my experience open communication is the key to any relationship. It’s important to seek assistance when necessary & keep dialogue open with Manager & Peers.

In my experience following things have helped me Be reliable: Managers love having folks they can trust to get things done. Ask questions to understand their suggestions, and then put them into action Be a team player: Team is always more important than individuals! Be the first to lend a hand to colleagues, share your knowledge openly, and celebrate everyone's victories together. By focusing on the team's success, you'll naturally build trust and respect with everyone around you, including your boss.

Disrespectful behaviour creates disharmony, disunity and eliminates oneness among teams. Respect starts with you. Do you respect yourself? Do you respect your peers? Do you respect your subordinates? Do you respect your boss? Be respectful to everyone and they will respect you, leading to a harmonious working environment resulting in excellent team results.

There may be times when you have a higher degree from a prestigious institution, a more extensive background, or experience with more renowned organizations than your boss. However, this should not lead to arrogance or inflexibility. It's important to avoid resisting your boss’s ideas or engaging in unnecessary arguments. The attitude that "the boss is unaware of the ground situation and therefore not the right person to tell me what to do" is counterproductive. We need to practice gratitude with our bosses-direct managers. They normally are in a position where they provide positive feedback to their direct reports however it does not go the other way around. When we are the direct report , we may not feel that giving positive feedback or comments to our managers is necessary. They motivate us with positive comments and-or feedback and do the best to be good leaders, let's give some recognition back . They are one of the main reasons that makes us work harder ,better and smarter.

In my experience the personal growth aspect is not only a top down kind of relationship. Understanding your bosses priorities and plans can help you to support him on his path too, which can create a very strong bond.

I would say it’s a tricky one. If your boss wants to grow by himself, and he is looking for a new partner in his journey, that works. But if the boss is conservative and there is no space to grow in the company, you are more likely risking your employment by asking about the growth possibilities. So if u see that your boss is actively growing, join his journey. If not, think twice 🙃

In my experience, it is important to rally behind the leader until you become one. Sometimes we take things in our hands without considering that there are superiors who need to be brought into the decision making process that is in the best interest of your company. You must feel empowered to making those decisions that are tested and proven to drive results and the leadership team has made those decisions in the past. When testing waters with new thoughts & decisions it is important to confer with other peers and especially the department heads to ensure that your company does not leave money or an opportunity to make more money on the table. Overall success, confidence and growth both personal & professional stems from good intent.
