Entrepreneurship is synonymous with risk-taking, but that doesn't mean acting recklessly. Effective risk management involves analyzing potential pitfalls and making informed decisions. You need to weigh the pros and cons, consider the worst-case scenarios, and have contingency plans in place. Cultivating this skill allows you to navigate uncertainties with confidence, ensuring that risks are calculated and not just gambles.

Entrepreneurship isn't just about taking risks, it's about taking calculated risks. It's somewhat similar to learning how to fly an airplane. Flying by ourselves without training is risky but doing it with an instructor is like taking calculated risk. During the process of training, we don't change the world but the world changes for us because we develop an alternate perspective, skill set and mindset to avoid upcoming pitfalls. That's why after going through 5 failed startups, I built my business in partnership with someone established. It became my real world business school.

Entrepreneurship is inherently about taking risks, but true expertise lies in strategic risk management. Imagine it as a chess game; each move must be calculated with foresight and strategy. Effective risk management also requires a resilient, adaptable mindset. Like a seasoned gardener who prepares for unpredictable weather, entrepreneurs navigate uncertainties with confidence by ensuring risks are calculated, not gambles. Fostering a culture of transparency and open communication about risks and opportunities engages the entire team, uncovering valuable insights and innovative solutions. Proactive, informed risk management strengthens a company's position and drives long-term success.

An important part of risk management is identifying your own strengths and weaknesses early on in your venture. Knowing what you know and don’t know is key to either your success or failure. Entrepreneurship is risky and stressful at its core so taking the leap with your eyes wide open realistically and truthfully will be beneficial in the long run.
Innovation is the lifeblood of entrepreneurship. To stand out in a saturated market, you must foster creative thinking. This means looking at problems from different angles, challenging the status quo, and generating unique solutions. By practicing brainstorming sessions and encouraging divergent thinking, you can develop an innovative mindset that identifies opportunities where others see obstacles.

Creative thinking is the fuel for your entrepreneurial journey. It must be rooted in your authenticity, leverage your experiences and passions, and tap into your subconscious—the place where realities you can't yet perceive exist. To access your subconscious, you need to immerse yourself in new situations and environments. You need to be challenged and engage with people and realities different from your own. Last but not least, you need time and space. You cannot be creative when you are stressed, when your mind is clouded, or when you are overthinking or trying to deliver something at all costs.

One thing I've found helpful is my imagination. Not to sound crazy but creative thinking starts in the imagination. I can create the most beautiful story, idea, or plan in my head. Writing session with myself. Praying and meditating brings out creative thinking.

O pensamento criativo e a inovação são interligados, mas não são a mesma coisa. O pensamento criativo envolve gerar novas ideias e perspectivas, enquanto a inovação é a aplicação prática dessas ideias para criar valor.

To foster creative thinking in entrepreneurs, two key elements are essential: knowledge and exposure. Expanding one’s hobbies and interests, consuming a diverse range of information, reading books, watching films, and attending art exhibitions are all vital practices. Contemporary art, in particular, can significantly enhance creative thinking because it often challenges our understanding and requires substantial mental effort and contemplation. Engaging deeply with various forms of art and information broadens one’s perspective, fostering a more profound understanding of complex concepts. This holistic approach helps in seeing the bigger picture and develops the ability to think creatively and innovatively

To think the way you want to think is probably the most laborious thing on earth! It’s easy to think the thoughts that’s suggested to you, most of them are probably negative… that’s how we have been trained to think… to think creatively and positively takes conscious effort… it’s a choice… there are only 2 things we have control over, one is the thought we think and the other is the action we take… we become what we think about most often… are you thinking of the problem or the possibility? What’s your conscious choice?

One thing I know that is very important in running every business is having a financial planning, and financial literacy education. This will enable the business or individual manage any venture appropriately. Financial literacy in every business will help secure funding, knowing the right insurance policies, manage risks, prepare financial statements, helps you separate family expense budget from the business budget, so you can have a financial stress free life in your home and in your business.

By mastering strategic planning, you ensure that your business moves in the right direction and stays ahead of competitors. First understand what strategy means. My colleague Jonathan Shaw (retd Major General and former assistant Chief of the Defence Staff) was an advisor to the House of Commons Liaison committee that recently published a paper on how to promote strategic thinking in Whitehall. Their definition can also apply to business. Quote: ‘Strategy’ is best understood by reference to what it is trying to achieve: the successful implementation of government policy over time. Executing strategy, or strategising is the cohering over time of reality (of the challenge faced), policy (what the government wants to do about this challenge), activity (directed towards this challenge to achieve this policy objective) and resource (allocated to this activity).
As an entrepreneur, you're not just a visionary; you're a leader. Leadership excellence means inspiring and guiding your team towards a common goal. It involves communication skills, empathy, and the ability to delegate effectively. By developing your leadership qualities, you create a positive work environment that fosters collaboration and drives your business forward.

Leadership has always been the core of any entrepreneurial journey. The perspective to give people a voice and encourage them to lead situations is a major area where leaders play the most critical role. A leader should always foster a positive outlook and encourage inclusion at all levels. At the same time, a leader should always be in the process to build another leader. It is this quality which sets a leader apart from the rest.
Lastly, the entrepreneurial path is often fraught with setbacks. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from failures and persist in the face of adversity. Building resilience involves cultivating a positive mindset, learning from mistakes, and being adaptable to change. By strengthening this quality, you prepare yourself to overcome challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.

Probably one of the most vital aspects of being an entrepreneur is resilience. Or perhaps just generally in life. I think failing and finding a way ahead is more revealing about a persons ultimate capacity and true character than when all is fine and going well. I guess one aspect of military service that I think is hard to replicate elsewhere is the innate requirement to pick oneself up no matter what the adversity.

Some of the key differences of "successful" entrepreneurial people I have observed among my clients are: 1. They kept moving forward even when they experienced fear and uncertainty 2. They did not look for perfection but rather believed in their ability to learn and grow 3. They were persistent, resilient and consistent

Under 35? Let's advance your career.
One of the coolest societal shifts that’s happened in recent years is the recognition that having a career and running a business aren’t mutually exclusive. There is a growing acceptance that having a successful career is akin to running a successful business. This means that everyone can be an entrepreneur in any organisation that they work for. You don’t have to start your own business to be an entrepreneur. Think about it. During your career you can manage teams, drive projects, innovate processes and receive great rewards, which are all things that entrepreneurs do in their own business. So to cultivate your entrepreneurial skills, see yourself as a business owner within the company you’re in.

I believe success is relative to how you define it. For me personally although a spiritual teacher, creating a way to share knowledge in this modern business oriented world, was a challenge and a blessing because it put me in contact with all the difficult aspects of todays tough reality but also pushed me to transcend my limits and my own perceptions. So here i talk spiritually and i can say if someone will take it like this, entrepreneurship is a great personal development path and way because it helps someone to be grounded and sincere and tests the true purpose and motivation you have behind your actions. You cannot succeed if you are not clear/sincere about what you want to achieve and why you want it. Many struggle exactly from that
