Often it is seen that current issues dominate our decisions whereas Risk analysis needs to be done from an organization's sustainability point of view. It would be prudent if the decision making managers go through a short seminar on the issues to be kept in mind while identifying risks and thereafter reviewing the risk analysis done in the past by peers (if available). Having said that, even if you realise after some time that the Risk is not worth the effort, it should be shelved in favour of a better choice.

I certainly agree. It is important to be able to effectively navigate risks and uncertainties as a project manager - it increases the likelihood of the project success. Identification of those risks is the first step and we can achieve this through a risk assessment process, through a SWOT analysis and maintaining a risk register. Next it’s important to rank the risks and come up with possible responses to each. Once this is done, we can begin to implement the responses and monitor the progress using the risk register. It is also key to keep a open communication with the project team and stakeholders so that everyone is aware of the possibilities and are able to escalate once they notice any other risks.

Communication is the key for every skill but even more important for risks/issues. Senior leaders/ExCo are more focused on the risks we have on the project along with clear mitigation/contingency plans and actions to drive them to closure with ETAs. When the ETAs are getting breached and risks foreseen to become issues, even senior leaders would escalate things and facilitate the resolution.
Lastly, view each project as a learning opportunity. After a project concludes, conduct a post-mortem analysis to review what went well and what didn't. Identify lessons learned from managing risks and apply these insights to future projects. This practice not only improves your risk management skills but also contributes to a culture of continuous improvement within your team. Sometimes a risk or an issue can potentially lead to an opportunity where you can change the way you/your team is working. It should be an opportunity to learn new things
