Belle of the Ball

‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 Is Netflix’s Diamond of the Week

The third season of the Shondaland drama drew 45.1 million views in its first four days.

“Bridgerton” Season 3 is off to a steamy hot start.

The third season of the Shondaland period drama drew 45.1 million views over its first four days of availability, according to Netflix, easily finishing first on the streamer’s Global Top 10 list. Take that, Tom Brady roast. (And Ashley Madison docuseries, and “Baby Reindeer,” and literally everything else on Netflix.)

It was the biggest week — by quite a bit — for any series on Netflix since the streamer changed its core metric from hours viewed to views in mid-June 2023.

The first four “Bridgerton” Season 3 episodes reached number 1 in 78 countries and the Top 10 in 92, Netflix said. The next four episodes premiere on June 13; try not to obsess over the big cliffhanger between now and then.

The third season of “Bridgerton” also brought the first two back to (some semblance of) their former glory. “Bridgerton” Seasons 1 and 2 both returned to Netflix’s Top 10 TV (in any language) list in the week ahead of Season 3. They did even better during Season 3’s premiere week.

“Bridgerton” Season 3 is chasing, well, “Bridgerton” Seasons 1 and 2 — as well as other series.

The first season of “Bridgerton” is the fourth-most-watched season of any English-language TV show in Netflix’s (recorded) history. It drew 113.3 million views (929.3 million hours viewed) in its first 91 days of availability. Season 2 is on the same list with 93.8 million views on 797.2 million hours viewed; that’s ninth.

To make the list, “Bridgerton” Season 3 (or any show at present) would need a haul of more than 83 million views in its first three months. That would boot “The Witcher: Season 1” from the 10 spot.

“Bridgerton” spinoff “Queen Charlotte” is not on the list.

Netflix’s biggest show ever is the Korean-language series “Squid Game.” A second season is set to premiere later this year. In terms of its English-language hits, “Wednesday” Season 1 rules the roost; only that Jenna Ortega series, “Stranger Things” Season 4, and “Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer” story have “Bridgerton” Season 1 beat.

The next season of “Monster” focuses on two monsters: brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez. “Stranger Things” Season 5 will be its final season; “Wednesday” Season 2 is slated for 2025.
