The Grand National is one of the biggest events on the British sporting calendar - though watching it doesn't top the nation's bucket list.

The event at Aintree is one of the most famous horse races on the planet, attracting roughly 150,000 spectators every year. But as highly-anticipated as the Grand National may be, the British public reckons two other sporting events are a little more must-watch.

According to a survey carried out by Betfair, watching the FA Cup final at Wembley and attending the Wimbledon final are top of the UK's collective sporting bucket list.

Watching the Grand National is third on the list, while a ticket to watch the Ashes at Lords is fourth. Completing the top five is another day at the races - this time at Cheltenham for the Gold Cup, and tied for fifth is a nabbing a seat at Silverstone to watch the British Grand Prix.

Elsewhere, respondents were asked what they thought the most iconic Grand National win of all time was. Red Rum's record-setting third victory in 1978 sealed top spot, while Rachael Blackmore's win onboard Minella Times in 2021 - which saw her become the first woman ever to win at Aintree - came second.

This year’s Grand National marks 60 years of the Injured Jockeys Fund, a charity that was set up to support, improve welfare and make a difference to the lives of jockeys.

In recent months, Betfair and Rachael Blackmore have extended their support to both the Injured Jockeys Fund and Irish Injured Jockeys through the Serial Winners Fund, an innovative charity initiative.

Last November, Betfair and Blackmore inaugurated the fund at Haydock Park during the Betfair Chase, kickstarting it with an initial £100,000 donation. Since then, Betfair have committed to donating £5,000 every time Blackmore rides a winner up to the end of Grand National day - meaning that so far a further £105,000 has been donated, taking the total up to £205,000.

‌Blackmore, who is a Betfair ambassador, said: "As a jockey you just want to ride in the Grand National, you never think that you're going to be lucky enough to win it. It's very, very special, it touches different parts of the globe that other races don't.

‌"This year at Aintree, I'm hoping to add to the Serial Winners Fund, which is such a generous initiative run by Betfair in support of the Injured Jockeys Fund in Ireland and UK, it’s one that I am very proud to have been a part of this season.

‌"This really is a substantial donation and will support the vital work they carry out helping jockeys in all areas of their lives."
