Two women were slapped with an £80 fine each for stripping off their dresses and streaking at the Grand National.

The event is renowned as one of the world's most prestigious horse races, but it's not just the horses that have been known to sprint along the Aintree course.

Like many other major sporting events, the National has become a target for those looking to give spectators a laugh by streaking. This was the case in 2011 when two ladies decided to strip down and make a dash for it.

Gemma Porter and Louise van Marle, friends from Fazakerley, brought Aintree to a halt as they frolicked topless down the final furlong, much to the amusement of onlookers. The pair were eventually apprehended by police and hit with an £80 fine each for their daring stunt.

However, this didn't seem to dampen their spirits they later bragged about their audacious escapade. "We weren't nervous, it was more like excitement," 29-year-old Porter told the Liverpool ECHO. Her 21-year-old partner in crime Van Marle added: "We wanted to do it on Ladies Day, but we couldn't get tickets.

"We were just having a laugh and a few drinks and we thought it would be funny. Afterwards we got a telling off by the policeman, talking about safety and how we'd outraged public decency but I don't think the people were outraged, I think they were made up."

The pair were happy to have given the crowd an eyeful

They're not the only cheeky race-goers who've fancied a nude dash at the Aintree . Fast forward five years, and one bloke bagged himself the moniker of "Red Bum" as he bared all to give the course a whirl with side-splitting and disastrous results.

Everything seemed peachy for the birthday suit sprinter until he met his match with the first of the track's notorious fences. The starkers lad gave it his all to leap over, but showed why the jockeys and their steeds are the pros as he face-planted spectacularly.

Not put off or maybe too sloshed to notice the man stood up, only to hit the deck once more. Unbelievably, he went for the hat-trick, but the crowd in the stands just howled as he bumbled and stumbled, failing yet again at the second hurdle.
